11.18.2009
The pieces in your Montypes Ala Zola gallery are terrific, you seem to have done them with some humour in mind as well!
11.18.2009
Charlie, the colours in your Forced Color Plein Air gallery are simply wonderful. I am sorry that I did not visit earlier but we had a large wedding at home the second weekend of November and we had festivities all weekend, Friday, Saturday and Sunday with dinners here before and after also. Needless to say I have not forgotten you! I hope that all is well with you; you certainly seem to be successfully enjoying this new method of painting. I have only achieved 1 painting this year, just too much going on in family life. However, I intend to get back into full swing next year. Take care and enjoy your creating my friend.
11.18.2009
hey charlie like the monotypes ala zola particularly bachelor groom. Consider brightening the pics(light) they seem too dark and cant see details well.best,Pablo
11.10.2009
Only one of the pieces, "Lumpybumps" is thermo-formed plastic. The rest are formed steel, stainless steel, or aluminum with powder coating and/or polished.
10.30.2009
Thank you :)
10.26.2009
Masons 12 s my favorite. They are all really good. Great color choices. Deb
10.21.2009
Hi Charlie, This was not one of my better works. I did have a woman dangling between the points of the moon but decided I didn't like her look so colored over her. I am using smooth bristol board. Just didn't have the patience on this one to do it right. Ah well, next time will do better :) Thank you for all the helpful suggestions and will take it to task. Good night. Deb
10.19.2009
thanks Charlie, i already sold the one you liked best, i guess some one else liked it too. i hope i can come up with some good ones again. i am never sure how it turns out.
10.19.2009
all have fantastic ballance in theme with colorization,,,hard to pick one...this is fantastic collection...very hard to isolate one.Spiritual calmness coming from them.Calmness is the mental state of being free from agitation, excitement, or disturbance...this pieces really pointing out the intersection of those rules!!...great to see this!
10.17.2009
Thanks Charlie, It is so easy to get discouraged. It is good to have a friend like you. Deb

8.22.2009
30 min gallery is great with light. Congrats.
8.21.2009
It is interesting how we talk about where we live with our work here in Mexico there is a lot of colorfull stuff, the houses, cars, clothes but our ecosystem is really dark and gray that's why I like your blue sky here is more gray cos of the pollution.
8.20.2009
I love your new series, you seem to be achieving your goal, well done.
8.20.2009

7.22.2009
Hey Charlie. This series (Thirty minutes) has a lovely simplicity yet an energy pervading each piece, through the use of tone and composition. There is also a watercolour texture which I don't know how you achieve. Great stuff!
7.22.2009
J'adore. Lord you're inspiring. not to mention prolific. Rach x
7.17.2009
I am just trying to confuse you Charlie.. The tree candy was sending me into a diabetic episode.. and I was trying to be funny but I am not funny. :( so they say. Deb

Reaching for my insulin now. Thanks Charlie. Hope you are well. Deb
6.29.2009
Thanks
6.21.2009
The flower faces I remind of of their art.
6.17.2009
I like all of it in the "thirty minutes" gallery but the first one...blue house..fantastically strong with the color usage!! that blue and green neigbourhood made the piece so calm and balanced!!
6.16.2009
love the new paintings Charlie, great palette.Rodrigo.
6.15.2009
These are lovely peaceful pieces Charlie, well done.
6.14.2009
Hi Charlie. Zoo Land is just another instance of be being weird and drawing anything that comes to mind at that moment. There is to plan in most of my work.. just a line drawn and my imagination gone wild. Thanks for commenting. I thought your last gallery was really great. BTW, I know I need to toss the pencils but they are so much easier than messing with paint.. I don't take me that seriously. Your friend, Deb
6.14.2009
great works Charlie!!
6.13.2009
Thirty Minutes is great. Love it. Deb
6.13.2009

5.21.2009
Love the sunlight in your new galleries. Congrats. Deb
5.21.2009
That collection was really different for you, what inspired you to make that body of work?
5.21.2009
Great gallery Charlie...I think these are from earlier years....but if not so...they are fantastic...anyway!!..Sometimes the strength of the landscapes are in their simplicity! The landsapes on canvas do not need photo realistic copying, they are more stronger in "style" if the artist put his or her style into it.That`s why the classical painters were really recognizable after they works. (we can see that in the Van Gogh simplicity)..My fav.is Field afar..but all the pictures show really unique style,,,balance.and spiritual peace of color choose!
5.21.2009
very nice pictures
5.21.2009
Your new gallery is fantastic!!! :))
5.21.2009

5.12.2009
Thank you Charlie..I was thinking I don`t want to paint for public...that`s why these are really raw..but I like raw works because they could also be honest..I really happy if you like it because your art and knowledge is deeply respected in my eyes ...you are really one of the last artist who definetely understands the last century! jack
4.29.2009
Oh Charlie I know what you mean! Right now I am at a standstill with art due to family commitments but hope to get back to something new very soon. I definitely need to paint over old canvases and find a new feeling to follow. Keep the work and inspiration coming my friend and enjoy the creativity.
4.29.2009
HI Charlie!...Thank you I`m oke:)...try to catch spring in feelings:)...right now I want to make a piece about a ship...kind of harbourscape..or like that!...I like to put some agression in it...hope so will be oke..! I like your spirit in creativity!!..you have lots of great piece!!

4.27.2009
Hi Charlie, Love your new gallery The Act of Talking.. You have been really busy doing great stuff. The music is perfect for it. All the best, Deb
4.27.2009
Is your book finished, the one with collected artist's comments?? Do you feel the environment has changed, that the artist's reacton is now predicated on a different set of circumstances. Like the ground to respond to is different than we when we started out? Are there still some old and fast rules you still believe in?
4.27.2009
Hi...Charlie,your work is too impressive, my mind, meanwhile i'm not able to passing comments in your super works,i thought work is very-very differented"THE ACT OF TALKING TO ONESELF"I'm really too love your work and salute man....sujan biswas
4.27.2009
Are you "into"late Phillip Guston? HAve you tried Twitter yet?
4.27.2009
Great group of drawings, megalomaniacs across time and space with curvaceous cubist qualities.
4.24.2009
LOL, I don't scare that easy. In any case, had an injury so was down for the count and just focusing on new work, large drawings and video. Posted to You tube. It's been very productive left the city for a few weeks went to the mountains and the woods of upstate NY and Mass, fantastic break. will be around a bit more again. hope all is well as always charlie
4.22.2009
hey charlie long time, like the new gallery, Maulluk series. Funny enough I was just reading through a book of picasso images and some auction catalogs with cubists work and early surealism.
4.10.2009
Thank you for your comment, I really appreciate all feedback. I took a look at your new website and was struck by the more direct interest in the narrative. I haven't been to your sight in a bit, but it is a exciting new direction.

3.13.2009
They are fantastic drawings Charlie...great to see this..it`s very hard to make modern pictures with graphite...excellent compositions and technique!!
3.9.2009
Charlie, love your new gallery. Great compositions and textures versus quiet areas. The textured parts remind me of Klee and Egon schiele landscapes. I wish I had your vibrant energy. All the best Ann!
3.5.2009
The 16th Century Italian Mannerist works are dark and elongated in an ugly, uncomfortable style. I look at your paintings and ask the same thing, "What are you trying to say here?" hmmm. Guess I could find a hairball in the trash can and squint my eyes enough to recognize the possible outline of a horse.
3.5.2009
Very original and compelling.
2.22.2009
I understand what you are telling me Charlie. I will try to create a balance in my next work. I was hoping to do this with the calm sky and straight waterline. This one was a struggle so glad to be done with it and on to better things. Thank you for helping me understand how I can improve. I really appreciate it. Deb
2.13.2009

11.11.2008
it's the last piece in a series with eggs finished last year. back to the beginning. Yeah there is a sense of lost communication. hence the pins, the cut out and cracking of the egg shells. At the moment I'm working on a large piece for days on end it's resolution is problematic. I think I really just need to step away from it.
11.8.2008

10.4.2008
Charlie, thank you for taking the time to write. Yes, they are smaller works, around 4-8 inches. I am currently creating a piece which is quite a bit larger, and although I had always thought that the media (maps) called for more intimate pieces, i have to say i am really liking the results so far. If you send me your email address i will add you to the jpg list so that you can see new pieces as they come out. Do you know what that film was called? I will look it up. My next show is for the Miami fairs, if you are going to be there. These pieces are essential to view in person. take care, ks www.ksrives.com

9.10.2008
Many thanks, "Wire Tap" site specific installation and selected works by dianne bowen and heins kim. Artlesnyc Studios 202 Rivington Street btwn pitt and ridge streets, lower east side NYC. sept 26 from 7pm to midnight. The work is quite large. It transforms the lower level of the outdoor project space beginning and responding to and from the wires coming down from the sides of the building.("prey for good weather LOL) Yes, in the age of "ease dropping, misinformation, privacy, healing, repair, mending are all questions I seek to address. What are we hearing, what has been censored... ect. I have become very interested in the involvement between the viewer and the work which is a wonderful component of doing installations. I also like the idea that you reside within the work for a moment in time to think and yet you may also leave the space and view the work from a distance. Involvement is by choice. kinda like "come, sit with me speak with me, a visual discourse, felt, seen, listening, close your eyes, open, touch, move around poke and prod peeking in.... a curious voyeur. thanks again for your comments, I do love to chat with you about ideas. going to work on it after I finish my coffee (grin) di
9.9.2008

I hope the painting what I painted over wasn`t a real Van Gogh..:)

7.3.2008
Hello Charlie, Appreciate your taking the time to comment on my work, thank you. It is true that I see more than just sky, trees and bushes when I paint. Actually most of my work is done in the studio, never been fond of plien-air work even though I know work done on location has a spontaneous quality not attainable in the studio. I am not necessarily striving for spontaneity but trying to convey a more spiritual feel to my surroundings. I have just recently registered on MySpace and am intriqued by it. Never have made any prints of my work and in trying to upload an image for MySpace to make the print - I discovered the size and pixels did not meet the minimums so I must recruit a different camera to shoot higher resolution than what my camera can produce. Anyway, your perception of my work seems to fit with my ideas about what I do even though I have not been very productive of late but hope to begin new work soon. Best to you and will visit your site soon. Don Berry
6.26.2008
color photography has still yet to produce the time tried masters you refer to regarding BW photography. Do You know that even Ansel Adams, the "defender" of BW photogrphy secretely dabbling and a stash of color photography was found..... I am told they are amazing? I feel color with its wide range of intensity and vibration helps shape objests as much or even more than black and white. I actually believe it is even harder to manipulate color than BW...there is so much more at play....but I respect both mediums and admire them both. That is why is so important to be trained from drawing (BW) up to colors (pastel, oils, acrylics). Let me see what I can dig out of my BW files....Thanks for stretching my neurons!
6.25.2008
i am delighted to see your work from close. i will stop by these galleries today and look for them. chio, soodi

Will be travelling again about 3/4 into June and for month of July, so will not get very much painting done for a while. Always love to see your art, your boats are whimsical and magical. 4.25.2008
hey charlie, going to Woodstock and Montauk NY and Alaska. A month in each but only a week in Montauk. There's a cool residency in Croatia but it's only 2 weeks long, Calmut is the name, deadline extended for this july. if your interested let me know and I'll forward the info to you. I think it's 400 E. 25 E app fee. I'm thinking about the croatia thing but may be too short... A bit of time outside your normal studio and location is so inspiring and good for the mind LOL! be well di

3.31.2008
A very good gallery...as usual. . I like boats also. I think it is the freedom of the wind hitting your face, the smell of the water, the sounds of seagulls, a fog horn sounding off in the night, the hallards dancing and making music, a full mood reflecting on the water like shimmering stones, the feeling of oneness with the sea, and the cool spray of the ways misting on your body during a hot season. Wow , look what all this has made me think of... thanks Charlie. Which one of my new art did you like the most?Always, cile

1.8.2008
thank you charlie for your compliment : )... i first toned the canvas with acrylic wash, then did the drawing with charcoal, and then painted the sky with acrylic around the lines... ran into a problem of smearing charcoal lines a little while painting the last step... experimental work as the rest of my work. a question for you... how much time do you spend per day creating? you are amazingly prolific... while, of course, satisfying rich and solid quality(context and skill) about your work... very consistent through out your vast variety of styles... thank you again, mimi p.s. please tell me... on your comment, were asking me what can be done to make my object appear lighter or were you saying that i have accomplished that? very very curious.

Monday, July 18, 2005 War Cry We painted our faces, We cut off our hair, We lived like a noble nomad tribe, We hunted in packs We took care of each other We traveled light We ate what we could We called each other Brother We prayed each day for a new foe We drilled and we trained We had our own special War dance We “yelped” and we “yelled” our War Cry Each day we asked for a battle Each night we lay sleeping itching to fight Each meal was a feast Each formation a family reunion My whole life is a mess – except for the success and excess Thanks to those thousand plus days I think I may have shattered the rest of my years Why oh, why, did I every yearn to make a War Cry We killed and we maimed We did this for thirty dollars a day We took life, from the lucky We left the unlucky to live Each night I wonder and shake Fears I had none, Tears I shed less A grown man near forty Today I have a new “War Cry”

This is from my first book of poems “War Cries” a collection of Military Poems Would I send my Son ? If I had a son And in his reckless youth He wanted War If he – craved the beast Would I, could I, Should I Break his hand – In his sleep So that I would not have to hold it While he shakes and sweats If not my son Could I send your son Those who have battled the Beast Would go again, rather than send their own A patriot in the words true spirit No man could call me a coward Many feared me All respected me War is a young man’s game Youth is truly wasted on the young I fought so as not to die Now I struggle to live I would not send my son to war All four of my books are available on www.amazon.com
