| Show Opening Friday February 22, 6-8pm at CAMP2631 Commerce St. Suit BDeep Ellum, Dallas TX 75226There is increasing attention to Texas-based artists working in encaustic. This age-old medium will see a lot of time and space devoted to it locally during the College Art Association's conference in Dallas this month http://conference.collegeart.org/2008. The first formal exhibition for the Dallas and Houston chapters of TexasWAX http://texaswaxdallas.blogspot.com will be hosted by Collaborating Artists Media Project (CAMP) in Deep Ellum at 2631 Commerce Street, Suite B, Dallas (side entrance on the east side of the building, free parking on the west of the building, common down the walk way in the front and around the building and chain link fence to the dark red door). The show will run from February 20-March 16, 2008; the opening reception is on Friday, February 22 from 6 PM to 8 PM. CAMP's hours are Monday-Friday from 10 AM to 5 PM and Saturdays from noon to 5 PM. Call CAMP for further details at 214. 245. 4581. Encaustic is an ancient painting technique that involves adding color pigments to molten beeswax. Encaustic has had a revival in recent years, with a growing number of artists experimenting with the technique for works in mixed media because of the versatility and compatibility of the medium with other materials. Like TexasWAX/Houston, the newly formed Dallas group meets to discuss art, share information, build camaraderie, exhibit, and educate. The groups will offer workshops, retreats, and exhibition opportunities in the future. For information about the groups activities and workshops, check http://texaswaxdallas.blogspot.com. | |
