Encaustic In the spring of 2007 I discovered encaustic, the art of hot wax painting. Melted bees wax is layered on the surface with color pigment added. I also use oil paint and/or multi media. This is an ancient technique which was first notably used in 100-300CE in Egypt. I like the uniqueness and personality of the hot wax. I enjoy the dance as I respond to the wax and the wax to me when I am flexible and flowing with its characteristics.
My other fascination is wool felt where I use Merino wool roving as my color pallet. Friction, hot water and soap make amazing creations of bright colors and familiar texture in an unfamiliar environment. As with the wax I never know what happens with the wool, which gives me the freedom to be out of control as an artist!
Since 1998, I have been interested in Feng Shui, the Chinese philosophy of harmonious placement combining the five elements: Water, Wood, Fire, Metal, and Earth. Feng Shui helps balance the elements using corresponding colors, materials, and symbols. This greatly enhances the flow of Chi, the life energy. The bottom line of Feng Shui is very simple: When you are comfortable in your surroundings - home, garden, office and workplace - you are a happier person. Happy people attract other happy people and good things in their life! That’s the Universe’s Law of Attraction. My intention is to help people enjoy themselves and their environment by applying the principles of Feng Shui, as well as Sacred Geometry and Symbolism of the Eastern and Western Traditions to my artwork. |
