Jenny Hart

BIOGRAPHY

Jenny Hart (b. 1972) is an artist based in Austin, Texas whose works in embroidery have been published and exhibited internationally. She is also the founder Sublime Stitching, a pioneering design company launched in 2001 to revitalize the craft of hand embroidery. Jenny's work has appeared in publications such as Spin, Nylon, Rolling Stone, Venus, The Face, Bust and Juxtapoz. She is the author of two titles for Chronicle Books (San Francisco) and her design work won PRINT Magazine's prestigious Regional Design Annual award (2005). Jenny has collaborated with The Flaming Lips and The Decemberists, and her work is in the collections of Carrie Fisher, Tracey Ullman and Elizabeth Taylor. Jenny is a founding member of the Austin Craft Mafia, and was a featured panelist at the 2007 SXSW Interactive festival.

Jenny--Ouch, that's me trying [and failing] to sew on a simple button. I had an aunt who had a piece she did when she was a young woman that hung in her home her entire life. As a young budding artist I loved it and always told her I wanted that piece of art. [I didn't get it.] When asked why that was her only effort, she told me, "no one would lay down money for something anyone could do." That single phrase sent me on a voyge of creativity that I travel on to this day. BTW, she did that piece in about 1910, when she was about 10 or 12 years old. It was much the style you have captured on Iggy pop, also one of my fav artists. Your work is great. It is so personal, and appears very laborus. Such a delicate touch you must have, no wonder why you are such a respected artist. I am so glad I have found you and your work, It sent me back to my childhood, where I met art for the first time.
