BIOGRAPHY
Penelope Caldwell is an artist living and working in Southeast Wyoming. She grew up in Ghana, Argentina and Brazil with roots in New York City.
The human figure and issues related to contemporary portraiture are central to her work. Her portraits are large works on paper. Through the subject’s gaze, these works explore the relationship between the identity of the subject and that of the viewer. In the recent fountain paintings, classical motifs of the glorification of violence against women are explored. In some, the relationships are turned on their heads with images of women in the dominant mode.
