BIOGRAPHY
Marty Gordon was born in Pensacola, Florida in 1962. His mother says he was born with a pencil in his hand and he's been scribbling ever since. As a boy, he drew monsters and superheroes. As a teenager, he dreamed of a career as a comic book artist. As a college art student, his focus shifted to printmaking. Marty earned his BFA from the University of West Florida in Pensacola where he also participated in exhibitions at Art on the Tracks, a local gallery. In conjunction with his graduation, Marty was also recognized as an outstanding fine arts student by receiving a Liquitex Art Materials Award as well as several school related awards.
During the next 6 years, visual arts took a backseat as Marty explored writing and theatre. He earned an MA in Communications from Southwestern Seminary in Fort Worth, Texas in 1995. Over the next 9 years, Marty spent time as a creative minister focusing on matters of faith and the arts.
In the spring of 2004 he met his wife Sarah who is also an artist. They challenged each other to begin making visual art again. Learning collage from Sarah, Marty has spent the last 3 years pouring all of his experiences into developing his own unique style. With his collages, he is telling a story, giving us a peek through a window into another world, a world where art, humor, faith, tension and candidness live together in vignettes of surreal commentary.
