BIOGRAPHY
Hadieh Shafie was born in Iran and immigrated to the United States in 1983, leaving at the height of the Iran/ Iraq war. The themes explored in Shafie’s work are the temporary nature of memory, history and personal experiences related to otherness and the Iranian diaspora.
After graduating from Pratt Institute in 1999 with an MFA in Painting, Shafie accepted a fellowship at the University of Maryland, Baltimore County, where she received a second MFA in Imaging and Digital Arts. Shafie’s work has been included in numerous exhibitions in the mid-Atlantic region; most recent exhibitions include Pyramid Atlantic in Silver Spring Maryland, Abrons Art Center, New York City & Saw Gallery in New Jersey, Maryland Art Place, School 33 and Goucher College in Baltimore, with upcoming exhibitions in Washington D.C., Delaware and California. Hadieh Shafie lives and works in Baltimore City, Maryland.
