BIOGRAPHY
Celeste Flores always considered herself an artist. The attempt to recreate the world around her through drawings occupied much of her childhood. Not satisfied with simple marks on a page, she would use any material necessary to satisfy her need to create; yet it wasn’t until her first semester in college that she discovered sculpture. Unhappy that she would have to deflect attention from her drawing classes, Celeste enrolled in a beginning sculpture class required by The Academy of Art University in San Francisco. It was a turning point in her life. Sculpture was the solution to her dissatisfaction. Through the use of three dimensions and a variety mediums she found a way to truly express her ideas. Her work deals with concepts of feminism through the lens of western history and literature. Her method of working is very expressive, yet it contains a quite strength. The work is most often figurative and the scale is life size, in the hope that the viewer may relate to the humanity of the work.
