BIOGRAPHY
George McKim is an artist who has been painting for 30 years and has exhibited his artwork in galleries across the nation. George is affiliated with galleries in New York NY, Philadelphia PA, Albuquerque NM, Richmond VA, Charlotte NC and Raleigh NC. George studied at the Skowhegan School of Painting and Sculpture and has an MFA from ECU and a BFA from VCU.
Currently George is working in the Mixed Media Collage on Paper medium, but that has not always been the case. For most of his 30 year career in art he has been a painter and has worked in the mediums of oil on canvas and acrylic on canvas. About two years ago George felt a need to go in a totally new direction and he felt like the Mixed Media Collage on Paper medium would facilitate that change and be an interesting challenge. What he finds interesting about this medium is the contrast between the precision of the sharp edges of cut paper and the expressive nature of dripped and splattered paint. There is an interesting dialog created between these contrasting processes.
George's artwork is inspired by nature. The natural world is the main inspiration for the forms and the colors in his work. He is not trying to reproduce the illusion of nature, but is attempting to give the impression of the beauty of nature and the amazing variety of forms in nature.
There is a playful and humorous quality in George's work as well as a serious expressive quality and also a penchant for formalism.
