BIOGRAPHY
Vera Walton
Born in Czechoslovakia, Vera was very much influenced by European architecture. It had an impact on her choice of career as an architectural designer, and also played a major role in her artistic pursuits.
During her early years she was constantly sketching. Like many artists, creativity comes to them in a round-about way.
At the age of 15 she arrived in Canada and eventually settled in the Cornell area. While attending the School of Architecture at University of Toronto, she became interested in photography and silk screening, which were part of the curriculum
She continued her interest in photography through courses at Sheridan College and has a passion for photography to this day.
These interests seemed to open the doors to her creative energy. She has experimented with batik, floral arranging, bobbin lace, sewing, etc. But her love for sketching persisted and she decided to take up watercolours by attending evening classes with a local artist. She also took a class in drawing to improve her techniques.
Her passion for painting continued, and after couple more watercolour classes with other artists she wanted to try different mediums. She went on to attended classes at the Varley where she discovered her enjoyment in painting with oils and acrylics.
Vera’s work is a combination of mediums, pencil, watercolour, oil and acrylics which encompass architecture, landscape, figure drawing, portraits and abstracts.
Vera’s work will be available for viewing and sale in her studio at the Markham 48 Studio Tour which takes place on September 20th and 21st from 10:00 am to 5 pm.
