BIOGRAPHY
Peter Heij, born in Utrecht in 1960, lives and works in Amsterdam, the Netherlands. Attended the Royal Academy for Art and Design, Den Bosch from 1982 to 1987 specializing in painting. Works during this period, and thereafter: figurative, expressionistic and even abstract, and continuing the realism with which he originally started in his youth and in the period before academy, now enriched with the knowledge gained at the academy.
Has regularly exhibited in the Netherlands and other countries worldwide. Recent solo exhibitions took place at Open Studio, Amsterdam (2007), Gallery Perlin, Amsterdam (2006), with an overview of the series Figures, the project Figures in the Sint Antoniesbreestraat (street), through a commission from the Wijkcentrum d Oude Stadt (2005); and at Gallery Acculade, Amsterdam IJburg (2005).
Recent group exhibitions took place at Castle Nyenrode, Breukelen-Netherlands (2007), Open Studios, Amsterdam (2007), M.I.A.D. Venado Tuerto, Argentina (2006/7), Gallery Acculade, Amsterdam IJburg (2006), and Gallery Peter Leen, Breukelen, the Netherlands (2005).
Has made travels significant to artistic development to Indonesia (1994 and 1997), Thailand (1995/6), Sri Lanka (1999), Vietnam (2001), Italy (since 1973, recent 2004) and the U.S.A. (among others, 2003-4-5/6).
