BIOGRAPHY
Bruce Noel Mortenson received his MFA in 1996 from The School of The Art Institute of Chicago and a BA in 1987 from the University of Illinois in Chicago.
To pursue his art ambition, Bruce quit a seven-year teaching position with Chicago Public Schools in 2004. This year Bruce received a Fellowship Grant Award from The Illinois Arts Council, placement in the Midwestern Competition and publication of New American Paintings, and a Community Arts Assistant Grant from The Chicago Department of Cultural Affairs. In previous years Bruce has been awarded with a CAAP Grant from The Chicago Department of Cultural Affairs, three NSC Program Award Grants from Nippon Steel and a 2nd place Award in at The Rehabilitation Institute of Chicago.
Bruce began showing his work in 1994. That same year, in a group show, he was awarded a solo exhibition He has continued to exhibit his work extensively in numerous group and solo exhibitions including: Johnsonese Gallery, Los Manos Gallery, The School of The Art Institute, Peter Jones, various public lobby exhibits including Suzanne Randolph Acquisitions, and Viridian Gallery in NYC. Bruce currently has a solo exhibition open through October 14th at The Chicago Cultural Center.
