Life of Ashis Pahi
Born in 1973, in Bhubaneswar, the temple city of India, Ashis Pahi then moved to a small village called 'Nihal Prasad'. His childhood was spent in the lap of green landscapes before he moved back again to Bhubaneswar for his studies.
Born into a family that has art in its blood he has seen his grandfather’s nifty hands giving shape to beautiful clay sculptures and his uncle transforming wooden logs into wonderful crafted furnitures. He has felt proud sitting on the first row, every time his father received an award for his excellency in Oriya literature. He learnt alphabets not as alphabets, but as pictures, as he remembers, he never wrote the alphabets, but has always drawn them.
After finishing his honours in political science, he got attracted to social work and formed a social organization with two of his friends in 1993 and the organisation was named as ‘Kartabya’ (Duty). The organization still exists with a capacity of 200+ volunteers. But still in no way he could bring smile on the face of his father, as he could not fulfill his father’s dream of becoming an IAS officer (a high rank public officer in 'Indian Administration Services'). But Ashis’s ideas always insisted him to think and act differently. He joined B. K Collage of art and craft in Bhubaneswar against his father’s decision. He enjoyed the new environment, as there were a lot to express with freedom. As an Artist, his first choice was ‘freedom’.
This provoked him for a visit to all the renowned art centres of the country and to meet and interact with renowned artists of India. He thus became more passionate about art and found it as a medium to continue his social work that he had left in touch with. After some years he found a new medium to express his creativity - Animation film making. He joined India’s biggest animation film school to become one of the pioneers of Indian animation industry. His first film called “Another Reminder” was true example of expression of social message in new medium like animation. It has been appreciated in international film festivals around the world.
Ashis has moved with technology, making fine balance between Art and Technology, but never forgot to express his views on society. His heart always cries for mankind and he tries his best to help others in all possible way, which always reflected in his paintings, his films and his attitude. His each stroke of line, his flow of colors speaks naturally on his paintings about the society he lives in, about the problem it faces and gives message about the solutions. He has mastered both realistic and abstract way of expressing things. And sometime he combines both to give unique impact on viewer's mind. His work of art is always thought provoking in terms of color, composition, medium and message.
