BIOGRAPHY
Mia Marie Overgaard divides her time between Copenhagen and New York City, where she lives and works. Being a graduate in 2006 from the fashion institute of Danmarks Designskole in Copenhagen, Denmark, Mia always tied her creative work to fashion. Being an illustrator, fashion designer and painter all at once, Mia describes herself as someone who truly breathes for ”the art of creation”. While she sometimes designs images for record sleeves and advertising, her activity mainly revolves around portraiture and fashion, most often for magazines.
During school she worked as a freelance brodeuse for several danish fashion firms while also spending much time and energy on developing her illustration skills and working with large scale paintings in her studio.
She creates her illustrations by hand and enhances them in digital media afterwards. Her work combines bright, vivid colours with fine linework and attention to details. Her drawings, in pencil conjure up a vide gallery of portraits: men, women, girls and boys with melancholic faces, and fashionable looks. Her work has a retro feel to it without ever failing to appear up-to-date and fashionable. She depicts a sophisticated universe where realism and sensuality of the figure is emphasised.
