BIOGRAPHY

I was born in Montreal, Canada and I am now living and working in Calgary, Canada. I completed my BFA at Concordia University in Montreal. I am now working on my MFA, using mixed/new media as my medium.

I create installations that immerse and involve the viewer through the use of digital photographic imagery, sculptural installation and soundscape. My work addresses the concept of the virtual, as well as our changing definitions regarding what constitutes a human being within a shifting technological world. I use post human metaphors of the human body in my work.

The installation shown here was exhibited in September 2007. It was constructed using three digital/photographic scans of my skin mounted on acrylic sheets and metal stands. When installed, the structures were lit from underneath with phlorescent lights. The structures were visually and metaphorically connected with each other through the use of sinew, the connective tissue of the human anatomy. The tapioca beads scattered on the floor throughout the installation alluded to nesting organisms, growth and regeneration. As part of this installation, five speakers were mounted in the gallery space. The sounds of buzzing flies and insects, as well as other random metallic and industrial sounds played through a 5.1 sound surround system.

I have exhibited in Canada and the United States.

Chilling! Is the sound you've selected for your gallery display part of the actual installation? It should be. are you projecting an image on metal? Good stuff. Dennis .
