I was born in Portland, Oregon. My mother is an artist and my father was a musician. He gave up his music to became a cabinet maker to help the family make ends meat. As such, I didn't have an extravagant life, but it was a good one and I had the support I needed from my mother. She made me confident of my art and my abilities and encouraged me to pursue them even though everyone else around me argued against it for practicality's sake. I am currently residing in New Zealand and was married two years ago. It was a drastic decision to move so far, but it led me to a beautiful country and a loving new family. Last year I applied to Elam School of Fine Arts and was accepted. Coming from an informal education of mostly tips from my mother and my own study of art books, Elam has been a real eye opener. I look forward to what it can teach me over the next few years.

BIOGRAPHY:
Accomplished abstract expressionist painter and graphic artist (b. 1974). 7 solo exhibitions, featured in national TV programs, newspapers and magazines. My paintings are paintings of action, energy, passion (By passion the world is bound, by passion too it is released reads the ancient Indian text). Painting as an exaltation of being (direct, immediate, like a lyric poem an attempt to capture the moment). Abandoning the chimera of three-dimensionality, the paintings are void of any depth, just as the contemporary world is without depth. The depths of the modern world and its subterranean hallways the search for meaning have all become superficial in the contemporary world. The painting has no hierarchies, no layers. Rather, it spreads over the canvas like a rhizome, mostly on a monochromatic background. Cracks and margins Creating contrast through areas of white. White as crevices in the clouds of color (Letter), which only intensify the colors. Breathing air into the painting, but also cracks, pauses. From The Day We First Met to Waters of March, where white is present within the color network, to the triptych where they appear to have absorbed the largest part of the painting. In these three paintings (Waves, Silk, Letter) the centre is empty, like a field of pure potential. Blue desires Every star on my paintings represents a desire, says Van Gogh. In my work these are the blue dots, which appear in several paintings. Pulsating desires of cobalt blue.

raymond difley

BIOGRAPHY:
Raymond Difley has explored the precepts of art since childhood. Difley received a Bachelor of Arts in Art and Liberal Studies from CSU Hayward. His career has afforded numerous solo and group shows in and around the Bay Area. Notable exhibitions include a two-person show at 66 balmy, Prelude at Public Glass where Difley's paintings were featured among five participating artists, Art Gotham's By the Light of the Chandelier in New York and California Modern's, The Best of California Modern Gallery 2006. He has also appeared in several publications, most notably the Fine Arts Magazine and the Jewish Bulletin of Northern California. Today, in addition to being an exhibiting artist, Difley is an art teacher at an elementary school in San Mateo, which assists in nurturing his creative aspirations. Innate aptitude and invaluable influences have jointly fostered Difley's artistic evolution. A respected college professor impelled his decision to become a professional artist by commenting on his profound connection to the canvas. His prominent influences include such artist as Jackson Pollock for emotionality he exuded both in execution and resulting composition, Anselm Kiefer for his style and monumental artworks, and Wassily Kandinsky his stylistic choices in color, shape and design. Difley has and continues to work tirelessly at refining his craft, responding to an instinctual urge for creative expression that has evolved into his lifes vocation.

Art for me is an evolutionary experience. I began as a photographer and first became interested in integrating photo material into traditional art processes such as printmaking. As I grew as an artist, I let go of the photo aspect of the work to direct drawing and painting as I felt restricted by the need for photo materials. I am currently painting in oil with underpainting and transparent glazing to create depth and form.

BIOGRAPHY:
"I am absolutely fascinated by cities. Because of this passion, I graduated in architecture in Rio de Janeiro. While at the university, I started my art studies at the Modern Art Museum of Rio de Janeiro and experienced different kinds of media and techniques, from oil painting to jewelry making, but after being fully introduced to watercolour it soon became another passion. I started off with small sized watercolours, then I moved on to work with large scale canvas and acrylic colours, trying to achieve the same effects as in watercolour. My works grew stronger, with more intense and explosive colours. It was while coordinating a group of geographers and urbanists that I developed a growing interest in the connection between maps and art, inspired by the aerial views and sattelite photos of cities which emerged from my computer screen. These beautiful abstract forms influenced me to develop the theme Urban Colours and the series Imaginary Maps

Jeanne Griffin
myartspace id:jgriffin
BIOGRAPHY:
Jeanne Griffin was born in Colorado and has always felt connected with the creative verve and fortunate synergy surrounding Denver’s art community. She immersed herself in Denver’s lively version of Bohemia in 1990 when she moved to the now trendy LoDo. Back then, most of the buildings were dark and abandoned, the midnight trains passing through the desolate rail yards nearby wailed freely without regard to curfews or sleeping neighbors. The viaducts still guarded a sparkling secret; beneath their seedy, mysterious charm, Denver’s fledgling arts district thrived. Scenes straight out of Kerouak lived in the inspired cafes and obscure bars, and the culture encouraged street side fashion shows and outdoor speakers piping classical music. Before Coors Field sent LoDo real estate into orbit, city officials referred to the neighborhood as a ‘dilapidated blight’, but Denver’s creative souls called it “home” and at it’s heart, 13 art galleries called it “First Friday”- Denver’s original art walk. Still, finding space required a bit of ingenuity, and a lot of determination. Short of neither, in March of 1990 Griffin began working in her first “real studio” - a 10 x 10 chicken wire storage cage in the basement of RedShift Framing. Her “apartment” was across the street on the 2 nd ½ floor of the Wazee Supper Club in Westword's abandoned offices...not even a kitchen - the bath across the hall. The community gave her a sense of belonging, the atmosphere encouraged her passion and the easy camaraderie obliged her own Bohemian disposition. All of it inspired her painting and nurtured her creative soul. She has proven to be one of the most popular up-and-coming artists in Colorado. She was recently awarded Best Emerging artist by esteemed jurors at the annual Colorado AIDS Project Art 4 AIDS Auction and 1st Runner up for Pick of the Fringe at the Boulder Fringe Festival.

BIOGRAPHY:
As an artist I am the embodiment of the sum of what it means to be a Nuyorican woman, I am neither Puerto Rican nor of the United States of America. Part of the body of my art is an exploration of the symbiotic relationship between exploring my "€œPuerto Ricaness" in English and understanding my "Americaness"€ in Spanish. The other part of my art is the journey of who I am becoming as an individual with themes and ideas that are global €”at times abstract €”and more encompassing than the self that I started off as. I consider myself an illustrator of ideas. I try to not limit my narrative by any particular medium or style. Often it can include photography, illustration, painting and digital but are not exclusive to these. Currently I am exploring themes of the Latina female identity, women writers and history. In addition, some of my work is the juxtaposition of Latina women and the Virgin Mary. I am elaborating on the thought of the embodiment of real spirituality existing in tandem with the mundane of daily life.

I work at the moment as a freelance prop maker and illustrator across the whole of the UK. I feel that my creative style is loose, fluid and edgy and has a lively feel to it that hopfully enagages the viewer and also leaves unanswered questions so that the viewer can see what they want to see. I try to add a sense of humour to my pictures as I feel that art can far to often be too serious and creates too many barriers between artist and art lover. I hope you enjoy my work. Thanks for looking.
