| Having lived in the heart of The Lake District all my life and having had regular visits to Scotland when I was working I had no problem finding inspiration for my subjects, My love of the countryside, mountains and water can be seen in my paintings. I still have a love of Watercolours but the Wet in Wet technique with Oils is a pleasant distraction but no doubt I will still wander back to Watercolours every now and then just to keep my eye in. I had been fortunate that my work for many years had taken me all over The Lake District and the west coast of Scotland, I had taken this opportunity to take photographs and sketches of all the many locations I had visited, as you can imagine spending many years travelling around this lovely area I saw it in all itÃÆÃâÃâ ââ¬â¢ÃÆââ¬Â âââ‰â¢ÃÆÃââââ¬Ã

His images invite the viewer into dioramas that, while familiar and comfortable, diminish their trust in the medium. The result is a distorted sense of nostalgia and a heightened awareness of the photographer's control over image. (from CBCRadio3)</i>

| BIOGRAPHY: |
| Joelle Dietrick is a Visiting Assistant Professor at Florida State University. She received her MFA from the University of California, San Diego where she worked with Jennifer Pastor, Barbara Kruger and Norman Bryson. These experiences followed her time overseas, living in Italy, Bahrain, Germany and China. During these experiences, she became inspired by the unusual stories of female expatriates. Through her paintings, videos and animations, she considers how these adventurous women negotiate their wanderlust with traditional manifestations of ambition. Their proximity or distance to global power players are especially interesting to her, especially when the higher echelons of that jet set are still predominantly male.
Dietrick's work has been shown at the Long March Space in Beijing, the Atlantic Center for the Arts' Harris House Gallery in New Smyrna, Florida, the Museum of Contemporary Art in San Diego, the ARC Gallery in Chicago, Soho20 in New York City, and MPG Contemporary in Boston. With her work driven by research, she has also shown work at Ohio State University, Indiana University and has a solo exhibition scheduled for Colorado State University in 2010.
Dietrick has received a number of grants and fellowships over the years including Individual Artist Fellowship and Artist Enhancement Grants from Florida Division of Cultural Affairs as well as a Humanities and Russel Grants from the University of California, San Diego. Residencies at the Virginia Center for the Creative Arts, Banff Centre for the Arts, and the School of the Visual Arts have given her time and space to develop her artwork. The resulting artworks can be found in magazines—New American Paintings, Aspect: The Chronicle of New Media Art, and Drain Magazine —and online at http://joelledietrick.com.

 |
| BIOGRAPHY: |
| Alex Boyd is a German-Scottish conceptual photographer based in Irvine in the West Coast of Scotland and educated at the University of Glasgow, graduating in 2007. To date he has exhibited across Europe and in the USA, with his work being held in several private collections. His conceptual photography has been used by several musicians, such as The Dresden Dolls, who exhibited several large prints of his Weimar influenced series ‘Messer und Blumen’ on their UK tour. He also worked closely with composer and concert pianist Mike Garson, producing artwork for Garson’s albums. In 2007 Garson provided the music for Boyd’s conceptual short film ‘Die Hasenjagd (A Man without A Country)’ which also featured a contribution from Billy Corgan, of American art-rock band Smashing Pumpkins. He was shortlisted for a BBC prize for his photography by celebrated photographer Tom Ang, and has received praise from Austrian artist Gottfried Helnwein, and avant-garde musician and artist John Foxx.
In 2008 he has returned to large landscape photographic works, and intends to exhibit in the UK, Germany and America before the end of the year. A book of his photographic series titled ‘Sonnets from Scotland’ is scheduled to be released in October/November.
Concepts
While his early exhibitions dealt with depicting the urban landscapes of Scotland, his most recent work has been concerned with identity, and explorations of nationality.
In the 2007 Boyd directed 'Die Hasenjagd', an 11 minute short film comprised of the animation of several thousand photographic stills which explored the relationship between his German roots, and conceptions of Germany in the UK.
His new series ‘Sonnets from Scotland’ is a photographic journey throughout the landscapes of Scotland, showing recognisable locations re-interpreted. In depicting these romanticised settings with the addition of a lone figure, Boyd’s work recalls that of Anselm Kiefer’s ‘Besetzungen’ series, and the 19th century paintings of Casper David Friedrich. The series attempts to question the depiction of the Scottish landscape and our relationship to them by introducing a human element into these images. ‘Sonnets from Scotland’ draws its name from an early collection of Scots Makar (poet laureate) Edwin Morgan poems, someone who has had a great influence on Boyd’s work. In total 14 works will be shown in exhibition, with a total of 50-60 having been produced to date.
Influences
The following artists have all provided influence and inspiration: Bill Brandt, Jan Saudek, Rodney Smith, Heinrich Heidersberger, Gottfried Helnwein, Anselm Kiefer, Georg Baselitz, Edwin Morgan, Alasdair Gray, Ansel Adams

I have been interested in drawing and painting since youth, and had a rigorous arts education. I have been much influenced by the Flemish, Dutch, Italian, Spanish, and French great masters. I saw in their multi-faceted work multiple windows toward the absolute.
After a time of experimenting in several directions such as cubism, constructivism, and abstractionism and using various techniques, I came back to the kind of painting that best expresses who I am. I have always dreamed of painting this way, finding means to capture the passing and evanescent nature of reality through forms that transcend it. Traditional Indian philosophy claims that ̢̢̮ââ¬Å¡Ã¬Ãâ¦Ã¢â¬Ålife is a dream,̢̢̮ââ¬Å¡Ã¬Ãâàunderscoring an invisible boundary that separates different worlds from each other and therefore the respective ̢̢̮ââ¬Å¡Ã¬Ãâ¦Ã¢â¬Årealities̢̢̮ââ¬Å¡Ã¬Ãâàthat correspond to them. There is something in each ̢̢̮ââ¬Å¡Ã¬Ãâ¦Ã¢â¬Åreality̢̢̮ââ¬Å¡Ã¬Ãâàthat transcends its physical immediacy taking the form of a projection or emanation, thus outgrowing its deterministic corset and finding its ̢̢̮ââ¬Å¡Ã¬Ãâ¦Ã¢â¬Åsuper-reality̢̢̮ââ¬Å¡Ã¬Ãâàat a higher level. |

| ME......
A new York native, I spent the first few years of my life in Brooklyn then moved to Long Island, where I lived until I left for college. For the last 30 years I have lived in Lexington, Kentucky. I taught middle school and high school for a total of 13 years and also taught part time at the University of Kentucky. At one point I took several years off and designed and handcrafted leather jewelry that sold across the US in galleries and boutiques and at juried art shows. Then it was back to teaching, but I found that it was impossible to be a good teacher and a good artist; teaching took all of my energy. For the last 6 years I have been able to work full time as an artist and I can say without a doubt I am a much happier person.
MY ART.....
Years ago...I am talking about the late 1970's-early 80's I painted huge abstract paintings. When I was finished with my "formal" education I thought "so what do I really want to do". I think what matters most is being true to ones self and I did not feel comfortable with the direction of my work. While still teaching I began to draw with my students, discovering the wonderful colors achieved with prismacolor pencils. My students were so impressed that I could actually do art...it was a great teaching tool....and I also found that it was a very calming activity for me. Since then I have discovered gouache which works beautifully with the pencil to achieve the intense color I love to work with along with interesting shapes and designs. The inspiration for my work comes from what I see in the natural world though I use a vibrant combination of intense color and shapes rather than a strict representation of nature.
I am a juried member of the Kentucky Art Marketing Program and a member of the Southern Artists Registry.
I sell cards ...reproductions of my work....in several galleries and shops in KY and they are also available on my web site. |

| What inspires me on the whole is the quest for beauty and the looking for the continuing stories behind the everydays.
The last years I have moved more and more into using computers as a tool in my work. I find it a useful and very exciting tool, that allows me to tweak, experiment and combine in inspiring ways. Every now and then, of course, I get the longing for real paint and digs out my brushes again!
For me, art has it's most important function in saying what words cannot reach. Often words pinpoint to much, more than reality itself. Art - in pictures, music, drama etc - excitingly hints about all the areas in between. |

 |
| BIOGRAPHY: |
| I am an interdisciplinary artist, living and working in Maine.
In search of connections among geography, anatomy and botany, I combine the visual elements of maps, anatomical illustrations and natural forms to explore themes of travel, healing and time.
Maps depicting mountain ranges, roads, lakes and rivers resemble internal biological features, reproductive anatomy, skeletal structures and networks of the human body. Symbols of cities become acupuncture points, and meridian lines, like rivers, represent an internal system of communication and transport. Geometric seed patterns made of globe-like pieces of map reference small worlds, suggesting the potential for a broader landscape. The ephemeral nature of maps speaks to the fragility and transitory state of our lives and surroundings.
Archetypal images emerge from layers of translucent symmetrical forms, like layers of anatomical transparencies depicting the cross sections of the body.
The Simpling Series is reminiscent of the Rorschach inkblot test, and loosely based on the art of simpling, an early form of herbalism. This practice suggests that the shape and color of medicinal plants carry clues to their proper uses in healing. By utilizing these healing properties, ailments can be treated with the plant or plant part that most resembles the ailing body part. For example, an iris was used to treat a bruise, while mental illness was treated by feeding a patient walnuts. |

He studied economy at Vilnius University and graduated in 1985 with a degree in MA.
While studying economy, the artist also attended the Vilnius Fine Arts School and graduated in 1986.
As an artist, Kestutis Jauniskis is interested in architectural forms and colour, and their relationship with their surroundings. In his paintings, reality is sometimes mixed with fantasy, which infuses a poetic touch into this rational world.
It is in these scenes that Kestutis Jauniskis finds the shapes, colours, light and sky that evoke an emotional response in him, making him want to record them.
The abstraction of his painting best represents the depth of feeling he has when viewing this real world that surrounds us, finding beauty in what others may consider ugly or mundane.
At the same time, the artist likes to experiment with new abstract forms and objects.
His work has been exhibited in Finland and Lithuania.
He has participated in a group exhibition titled 'The Modern Lithuanian Art' at the Museum of Modern Art in Valencia, Spain. |

OTTO RAPP
Born in 1944 in Felixdorf, Lower Austria, I lived and was educated in Vienna, where later I worked as a clerk in the Transport and Insurance Business. After completing service in the Austrian Air Force, I traveled throughout Europe, eventually settling in Stockholm, Sweden.
As a Painter I was initially self taught, studying in the various Galleries and Museums. In Vienna, I was often ‘hanging out’ at the Akademie der Bildenden Kuenste, where I admired the work of the “Wiener Schule des Phantastischen Realismus” represented there by the Professors Ernst Fuchs, Rudolf Hausner and Arik Brauer.
In Stockholm, I found out that I was washing dishes in the very same Restaurant where years earlier another Viennese Artist, Fritz Hundertwasser, the ‘Austrian Gaudi’ as he was later known as, had worked the same job. Encouraged by an art dealer in Gamla Stan, I began to paint more seriously. Busking on the streets of Gamla Stan with a Dutch artist, my very first painting was sold to a passer-by by my artist friend while I stood in the employment office line - this paid for a lavish meal for both of us that day.
Traveling around in 1968, I wound up in Western Canada where eventually I settled in Lethbridge, Alberta, the place I still call home today. It was in Canada where the majority of my mature work was produced (under the sponsorship of a small Lethbridge Gallery).
Working for the Canadian Pacific Railway, I quit in 1977 to attend the Bachelor of Fine Arts Program at the University of Lethbridge, graduating (with great distinction) in 1982.
In Canada, I participated in many exhibitions, and held several Solo Shows, culminating in the pivotal 1994 showing at “The Prairie Art Gallery” in Grande Prairie, Alberta, which earned me the moniker ‘The Mystic’.
Throughout my years in Canada, I had been the subject of many reviews and newspaper articles as well as local television shows in Calgary and Lethbridge while being active as an artist, art instructor, curator, studio technician, art critic and juror.
