Leith O'Malley
myartspace id:Leith
BIOGRAPHY:
Leith O’Malley'a passion for drawing came at a very early age, being influenced by the illustrative style and cartoon work of American “Mad Magazine”, and later by notable Australian newspaper cartoonist Paul Rigby, Michael Leunig and American Illustrator Rick Griffin. Leith’s early work in the city of Adelaide included freelance illustration contributions to various magazines, before moving to country South Australia in 1986. He spent a lot of this time providing cartoons and spot illustrations for various newspapers. Leith made the transition from line to brush in the early nineties after workshops with “George Gittoes”. Gittoes is a renowned Australian artist and film maker who has won the prestigious Blake and Wynne Prize for visual art and has also held the position of official Australian War Artist. Soon after these workshops, Leith co-founded the “Red Dust Contemporary Art Group”, exhibiting artwork throughout regional and metropolitan galleries. In recent times he has also exhibited with the New Art Six, a collective of contemporary artists. Since then he has continued to exhibit in various group and solo exhibitions and along the way has created the promotional artwork for not only the Adelaide Jazz Festival but also the first “Rio-Havana-New York” Jazz & Latin Festival held in Moscow in late 2004. The ability to work in many mediums including digital has allowed Leith to have his work seen by a much larger audience these days. Now with a presence on the internet, Leith’s traditional and digital work is popular with both Australian and International media and business organizations. Clients who have used Leith’s digital artwork work have included the afore mentioned ”Rio-Havana-New York” Jazz Festival (Moscow), Guenette Production Company (Los Angeles), Le’Mag Magazine (France), BHP (Australia), Tokyo Electron (Texas), Bristol University (UK) and even the United States Coast Guard. Although he will tell you that the computer will never replace the feeling of brush on canvas or pen on paper, Leith’s ability to use the tools of both traditional and digital mediums has opened further windows of opportunity for him, and also given visitors from around the world the opportunity to discover yet another creative South Australian. Leith is currently working on his “Café Girls” series which is a collection of large oil on canvas paintings. He is also involved with the South Australian Living Artists Festival and curating the next contemporary exhibition for New Art Six. Much of Leith’s work including previews of his current series can be found on his website located at www.leithomalley.com

Julie Burgess
myartspace id:jbportraits
BIOGRAPHY:
THE ARTIST Julie is based in Norwich, Norfolk, U.K., although was originally born and bred in the north-west of England. BACKGROUND AND INSPIRATION Julie grew up in Clitheroe, a small market town besides Pendle Hill in Lancashire. The Pendle area is famed for its ancient mythology and tales of witchcraft and magic. The story of the Lancashire witches can found in Robert Neil's book 'Mist Over Pendle'. The folklore of the area was rich with tales of witches and their deeds and strange creatures on the moors at night. Julie feels she was profoundly influenced by these tales at a time in life when magical ideas seemed entirely possible. It made her conscious that there could be a hidden side to life, which she has remained conscious of as an adult. She feels that this 'romantic' sensibility of spirit in nature infiltrates her work, which tends to have a darkly dramatic emphasis at times. She prefers to capture more than just a superficial or flattering portrait of someone, but something of their spirit too. Certainly something inexplicable weaves itself into the drawings and paintings at times. She enjoys drawing portraits of all ages, ethnic and religious backgrounds, feeling that each person has their own unique combination of character, colour, light, and spirit to capture. She finds the process of drawing or painting a portrait strange and unpredictable. It is filtered through the unconscious and, as she points out: "I don't know what to expect at the end of the day. The portrait just develops - it has a life of its own. In many respects, I am just a powerless medium. There is something primeval about seeing a face emerge from a blank page." ARTISTIC INFLUENCES Julie was encouraged and inspired by two wonderful art teachers at her high school in Settle, North Yorkshire. (If anyone has news of Mr Glanville and Mr Edward Healey, then please do get in touch!) . She was also fascinated by the work of Hans Holbein in Tudor times, copying many of his most famous paintings (e.g. The Ambassadors) for a school project. Other important influences were Leonardo da Vinci, Vincent van Gogh, Monet, Rossetti, Millais, Münch, Dürer, Breughel and Munnings. OTHER ARTISTIC INTERESTS Julie also enjoys botanical painting and is happy to undertake commissions in this area.

Ronald Pancrazi
myartspace id:Pancrazi
BIOGRAPHY:
I graduated from The Cooper Union In 1969, majoring in both Fine Art and Design. In the early seventies, I worked on large canvases in New York City and started to freelance in Graphic Design. Although after a few years I did not paint as much, I never stopped drawing. For me, even today, the drawing is the main thing, the underpining of my art. My abstract drawings spell out the form and space-as well as the idea or feeling-I am trying to present. The paint adds another layer, but the line is always there, painted in to coexist with colors tones, and textures. In the last several years, I once again started to paint, but instead of large paintings done in acrylics and employing an air brush, I have done small oil paintings. Anything else you want to know-such as my ideas on ethics and philosophy or the state of art today-you can learn from my paintings, which only wish to be seen by a few patient viewers.

Sort of like choose your own adventure books, only it's choose your own backstory instead. ARTIST STATEMENT Creating work is much like breathing, you simply do it because you must to stay alive. The creation of my art is a means for me to express my faith in God, glorifying him, and giving him honor through my work. I have always had a love of the Mexican & Greek Icon- ography. My travels to both countries have enabled me to incorporate their color sense into my imagery. I have felt the desire to convey multiple meanings in much of my work and to provoke thought. Nothing in life is exactly what it appears to be and art in my estimation should reflect the same as life, the unexpected. It has brought me great joy so many of you continue to support my efforts by attending my exhibitions and through adding my work to your collections. I just want to say thank you. Juan Carlos Noria
myartspace id:mejuan
BIOGRAPHY:
**English Juan Carlos Noria A confluence of cultures and contradictions, Juan Carlos Noria is a painter for our times. Born in Caracas, Venezuela he carries his Latin American sensibility on his sleeve. As a teen growing up in Ottawa, Canada, he became an accomplished figure skater. Grace and lines were an obsession. So, too were his ideas of subversion. He fell out of skating after hitting the rigid class structure of the sport, finding comfort (and discomfort) in visual art, on the streets with a paint can, postering, skateboarding, fleeing police. A strange opportunity then came. A world tour with Disney on Ice. It heightened his sense of absurdity, humour and anger, sharpened his visual and social awareness. Arriving back in Ottawa, he hung up the skates and his career took flight with live painting performances. So proficient from his days of graffiti, he quickly earned a reputation for highly resolved canvases produced in front of appreciative crowds. Through these events in various venues, Juan Carlos also ensured a showcase for other young Ottawa artists, raising the bar and pushing them to achieve with him. It was 2001-2002. Meanwhile, the tide of CNNesque culture rose in North America. Juan, always with an eye on pop culture and current events, found himself painting with increasing anger. He needed to change the channel. In November 2004, he moved to Barcelona, Spain to find tranquilo, a new view of the world and new audiences. Since his move, he has evolved, focused and become more prolific, with exhibits in Spain, the United States and Canada. True to subversive nature, he undercuts his own personality allowing himself to explore two other personas and visual styles. He sometimes works under the pseudonyms of royal or dixon. He has been infuenced by his contemporaries Mark Marsters, Pat Thompson and Dave Cooper. Yet, he is himself-singular Juan. He is without pretense, full of concern for others, quick to laugh and quicker to paint something ripe **En Cattelan......

Skip Bleecker
myartspace id:sbleecker
Personal Store:http://www.nyaxe.com/SkipBleecker/
BIOGRAPHY:
Michigan-based American ceramic artist Skip Bleecker creates world-class fine artwork available to private collectors, corporate collections, museums, art galleries, offices, hotels and restaurants. A majority of the work consists of wheel thrown porcelain forms based on organic patterns of microscopic and macroscopic organisms. Some are based on seed pods, teeth, pollen, sea animals, squash, and even watermelon, but as the development proceeds, they merge and take on new forms of possible and imaginary organisms. All are hand made, one-of-a-kind pieces, usually done in a series, so there might be some similarity among some pieces, but no two are ever exactly alike. For most of Skip's life, he has been both attracted to and very allergic to, large numbers of trees, grasses, and bushes. He has refused to become trapped indoors just because of these allergies, and as he began to develop unique sculptural forms, he examined both macroscopic and microscopic elements of nature. By examining the form and structure of seeds and other natural objects, he found great beauty in these simple forms, and developed simple organic sculptural designs, based on slightly abstract versions of these natural world objects.

Numerous solo and mixed exhibitions of my work have been held in Western Australia since 1982. My work is represented in private and public collections in Australia, including The Art Gallery of Western Australia, Artbank Australia, University of Western Australia and the collections of the cities of Bunbury, Albany and Fremantle. In addition I have won several prestigious art awards in Western Australia. Since 2002 I have exhibited with the Stuckist group most notably in their landmark exhibition, The Stuckist Punk Victorian at the Walker Art Gallery, Liverpool, during the 2004 Liverpool Biennial. I was also one of the featured artists exhibiting in the Triumph of Stuckism, which comprised part of Liverpool's 2006 Biennial. In October of 2006, I was a finalist in Australia's richest award for landscape painting, the Fleurieu Peninsula Biennale Art Prize. Much of my work is concerned with exploring symbols derived from natural froms that give an insight into the nature of existence. The images are from a study of landscape in Britain, Australia and Thailand. I combine organic and human forms and symbolic imagery. The various experiences of life influence the the things I paint. The elements in the work are highly personal but I hope the images will strike a universal chord. Although spiritual in nature the work is not religious and seeks to understand the world in a meaningful way.

George McKim

BIOGRAPHY:
George McKim is an artist who has been painting for 30 years and has exhibited his artwork in galleries across the nation. George is affiliated with galleries in New York NY, Philadelphia PA, Albuquerque NM, Richmond VA, Charlotte NC and Raleigh NC. George studied at the Skowhegan School of Painting and Sculpture and has an MFA from ECU and a BFA from VCU. Currently George is working in the Mixed Media Collage on Paper medium, but that has not always been the case. For most of his 30 year career in art he has been a painter and has worked in the mediums of oil on canvas and acrylic on canvas. About two years ago George felt a need to go in a totally new direction and he felt like the Mixed Media Collage on Paper medium would facilitate that change and be an interesting challenge. What he finds interesting about this medium is the contrast between the precision of the sharp edges of cut paper and the expressive nature of dripped and splattered paint. There is an interesting dialog created between these contrasting processes. George's artwork is inspired by nature. The natural world is the main inspiration for the forms and the colors in his work. He is not trying to reproduce the illusion of nature, but is attempting to give the impression of the beauty of nature and the amazing variety of forms in nature. There is a playful and humorous quality in George's work as well as a serious expressive quality and also a penchant for formalism.
