BIOGRAPHY:
My passion for horses and creating art began as a young girl in Pennsylvania. At around age six, I experienced an event that changed my life. I rode a pony at the Philadelphia Zoo. Those five minutes began a life-long need to know these amazing creatures. Throughout my childhood, I spent most of my time drawing, riding or learning about horses. And over the past 19 years, I enjoyed the companionship of a very special horse named Rose who taught me patience, calmed me and inspired much of my work. While studying art in college, I found a unique way to show the human form. I began to create abstract artwork where one sketch began and another ended. This began a long series of abstract figurative work that branched out into the equine form as well. My higher education began with an Associates Degree in Equine Science from Delaware Valley College in Doylestown, Pennsylvania. In 1999, I earned a Bachelors Degree in Fine Arts (Communication Design/Illustration) at Kutztown University in Kutztown, Pennsylvania. I work primarily in pastel, watercolor and acrylic. In 2006, I joined the Equine Art Guild and began actively showing my figurative and equine artwork. Currently, I reside in Clifton New Jersey with my husband, new son and my dog.

BIOGRAPHY:
Each painting I complete is nothing but the conflicted wonderment of an angst-driven subconscious on the prowl for a brutal honesty, urged to sniff out those personal heresies residing somewhere between a humble arrogance and an arrogant humility, energies harnassed to instruct the flow of imagination. Rarely do I start with a pre-conceived notion of what "I would like to imagine" but instead, I struggle against the common elements of mind and materials the status quo presents. Artist Gabriel Thy Click for larger image As a conflicted idealist, I find myself continually drawn to the manifested contradictions of global society, and use figurative but erratic line, rough texture and virilent color to speak of that battleground where art and politics beat each other up while few are they who seem the wiser. Rising from among the first generation of computer graphic enthusiasts, I have inherited a need to probe into images I call "digital hybrids" which are organic drawings or partial paintings, or pieces of paintings I have photographed before painting over them, which I scan and further develop, but rarely in such a way as to indicate that they were computer generated. This contradiction, which often infuriates purists on all edges of the critical rag delights me, as I delve further into the question of the authentic and the counterfeit in the sphere of imagination. I view history and comptemporary culture as a freewheelin' exchange between truth and lie, honesty and cover-up. In an effort to expose the cliché as both prime soldier and stealth imposter of our times, my paintings are mere adverbs in a culture weary of language and camouflage. Thus, to remain true to my observations, thee rough line of my hand and vibrant colors of my palette must both appall and appeal to a generation lost to worldliness yet unable to secure refuge in this accelerated age on the brink of [FILL IN BLANK].

Tina Carroll

BIOGRAPHY:
I am an artist living in Kentucky who has created for over 14 years now. I use many different mediums including acrylic, ink, charcoal, oil pastels, watercolor and digital painting. I'm not strictly a brush and canvas kind of gal... I also use my fingers, crumpled cloths, sticks, and my nifty computer to apply various mediums. I adore and am influenced by Lee Krasner, Willem de Kooning, graffiti artists, Japanese ukiyo-e prints, Wayne Thiebaud, the Pacific Northwest, and Vincent van Gogh. I have taken university level art courses in drawing and painting and received my B.A. in art history in 1998. I have also completed graduate studies in art history. However, even with all of my fancy-schmancy education, I still create what I loved as a little girl- images with vivid colors, funky shapes and lots of texture. Many of my pieces are created while listening to music. I like to convey the colors, movement, and textures that I feel while listening to various types of music. My work is also based on emotional responses to current social and political issues. More often than not, I just make art that I like. It's that simple. fumiko amano
myartspace id:soniclady000
BIOGRAPHY:
Fumiko Amano was born in Tokyo, Japan in 1968. She has been exploring various mediums to express herself since she was a child. She started taking piano lessons at three, and she was composing music by seven. By the age of ten, Amano was exploring poetry and ink drawings. In 1987, she attended Toyo Women's College in Tokyo as an English literature major and joined a theater club in school. At that time she was fascinated by contemporary theater directed by Yukio Ninagawa and Juro Kara (the most influential Japanese theater directors). This led Amano to move to the United States to study more about contemporary theatre arts. Amano attended the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point, where she studied visual art, music recording, theater arts and performing arts for four and a half years. At age 23 she gave her first performance art piece, using a big mixed media painting (7' x 35') which was used as a musical score. She graduated from UWSP in 1993 with a BA in Art & Design-Painting/Printmaking. Soon after, she moved to San Francisco, where she started incorporating beat poetry, architecture, Japanese comics, dreams and sound into her paintings. In 1997, in search of a new environment to create sonic landscapes, Amano traveled extensively, first to Rio de Janeiro, then on to New York, Miami and Los Angeles, where she finally settled down. In 2000, she attended California Design College in Los Angeles to study fashion. Inspired by designs from contemporary designers such as Rei Kawakubo, Hussein Chalayan, she started her own label called Unicode to create contemporary wearable art. She also started working on fabric-made installation art pieces, inspired by Ernest Neto's works. In 2003, because of her passion for film, she started a monthly art film screening event at Art Share in downtown L.A. as a curator/organizer. In 2004, Amano helped curate the Tar Fest Short Film Festival and in 2006 she curated a film event for MOCA NIGHT VISION, in conjunction with Robert Rauschenberg: THE COMBINES. Los Angeles Magazine has dubbed her the 'culture vulture' of downtown Los Angeles (June 2004 issue) because of her devotion to the Downtown art community. Over the past five years Amano has been working on several series of paintings, including: Dream Series (2002 & 2007), Dust Painting Series (2003), Water Music Series (2003), Live Painting Series (2003-current), Organic Series (2003-current), Downtown Series (2004-current), Pattern Series (2005), Atmospherics Series (2006), and Flower Form Series (2006-current). Her atmospheric paintings, created as visualizations of sound/dream/organic forms, have been exhibited in San Francisco, New York, L.A., Berlin, London, Spain and Korea. Her recent works were exhibited at the Santa Monica Museum of Art, LACMA Rental and Sales Gallery, MOCA and Murnau Art Gallery in Seville, Spain.

BIOGRAPHY:
My work represents an inner passion to create, to sort out those feelings, those unexplainable needs or sensations pent up in a creative person. There is never any certainty in this pursuit. At times, there is this sense of accomplishment that I have finshed or completed something. It's almost as if I've figured out a piece of my self-puzzle. Is that even a word? On the opposite end of the spectrum, to start something new is just as invigorating. Where am I going with this endeavour? Art has been the most difficult and most enriching experience. What it brings out of me serves my curiosity. Creating is a pursuit I can never walk away from. It follows me. It seeps out when I least expect it. I adore that aspect most. It will never allow me to be left alone. When all else may fail, I have this 'thing' that will always be with me. Feel free to leave comments in the guestbook area. I would greatly appreciate any feedback. Thank you for stopping by. g

Maryann Worrell
myartspace id:MWorrell
BIOGRAPHY:
Maryann Worrell Born in Philadelphia to young parents who put a “blinking-eyes” mobile over my crib and had Janis Joplin on the Hi-Fi, music and art have always surrounded me, and I have always had a strong need to create. Until the last few years, however, life had been a long and windy journey of many struggles, including bad relationships, financial problems, and my own battle with cancer at 26. I didn’t return to the need to create until my early 30’s, and thought I would become an art teacher, graduating from Arcadia University in 2005. It was through this education, however, that I found my own need to be a working artist, and my desire to express my own struggles, as well as the struggles of other women, through my work. My artistic interests began in architecture and painting, but it was in Arcadia’s metals program where I found my challenge and medium. Cold and smooth, metal can be curvaceous, organic, and feminine, or sharp, sterile, and rough. I combine it with found objects to create assemblage art that links the past to the present. Mixing these materials, I strive to create work that compels people to look closer, that changes their environment, and that confronts them with issues that are complex and, at times, unsettling. My work tells the stories of women in flux, women making changes and hard choices, whether they be about marriage, having children, or battling illness. It also tells the stories of the expectations society has and the judgments it makes on women for their choices. For me, the stories are as malleable as the materials I work with, soldered together and mixed with pieces of other stories, changing with each day and each choice. Maryann Worrell is an artist, designer and instructor who has recently set up her workshop, “She Rocks Studio,” in Phoenixville, PA.. A BFA recipient from Arcadia University, Maryann is currently exhibiting in Philadelphia and teaching Metalsmithing at Arcadia University,Wayne Art Center, and The Phoenix Village Art Center.

Steven Miller
myartspace id:stefano22
BIOGRAPHY:
ARTIST’S STATEMENT OF STEVEN MILLER Although I received my training based on the principals of the 19th century French Academy, including the study of Old Masters, landscapes, figure painting and the direct observation of nature and can do representational work, I have felt more compelled towards abstracting images in news media including print, the internet, computers, electronic photography and pop culture. I have done thousands of studies of the nude, innumerable landscapes and multitudes of drawings based on nature. At the same time I have also taken hundreds of photographs, which led to my involvement with photos taken with the electron microscope. I began my investigation in the 1980’s when AIDS was beginning to explode across international borders. I began with producing series of drawings based on different viruses. From these initial studies I painted my first large format oils on wooden doors, exploring and expanding upon the studies that I had done involving photo-electronic images of viruses. I have been continuing these works in oils on canvas. I work in a series of paintings, usually working on from ten to twelve paintings at a time. These works still hold a strong fascination for me and continue to provide me with boundless inspiration. The work I produce is all about color, form and simplicity. ABOUT THE ARTIST Steven Miller lives and maintains a studio both in New York City and in Connecticut. He has exhibited on the national and international level including New York, Los Angeles, London, Madrid, Barcelona, Milan, Rome, Berlin and Cologne. Miller’s work was recently exhibited in Milan in conjunction with women’s Fashion Week in a “Sensorium”, where his work was projected over and inside of a multi-level plastic bubble while d.j.’s played music and models strutted down the runway. His work has also been featured on “Sex and the City”, and makes nightly appearances on the hit t.v. sitcom “Fraiser”. His paintings can also be seen in major Hollywood movies and were recently showcased in “My Super Ex Girlfriend” starring Uma Thurman. Miller’s paintings are all about saturated color, superb selection of form and the interplay of new technology colliding with classical ideals. His work is in numerous private and public collections including the Bayly Art Museum, the Savannah College of Art & Design Museum, Chase Manhattan Bank, and Walden International, Hong Kong. Miller’s work has been published in conjunction with the Japanese Museum of Contemporary Poetry in Tokyo. His work may also be viewed at www.stevenwmiller.com.
