MIRA ALIBEK
myartspace id:miraalibek
BIOGRAPHY:
I am a NYC based artist, who lived the first half of my life in Russia and Kazakhstan. I am still influenced by those childhood memories, still steeped in that Russian culture of illustration, animation and lavish orthodox iconography. Later inspirations include Warhol's rugged silkscreens with their serial imagery, Barbara Kruger's use of expropriation and type, as well as Art Nouveau intricacies of line and color (which I associate back to those of medieval Russian iconography). My work grows out of a fascination with variations within repetitions, with orders and with disorders, and with the patterns and singularities that comprise them. I draw inspiration from these patterns, from objects and tracings that have begun the process of deterioration -- a crack in a subway tile, LED screens pockmarked with busted bulbs -- and build stories around them. I work with natural textures, mixing media to achieve the image I envision. I build a piece in layers, using different surfaces, materials and patterns to create depth both in form and meaning. Each layer works with and against the layer beneath it, creating new relations. If an error occurs in printing or drawing, I may latch onto it, pivoting the entire piece on a new trajectory. Or I may zoom into it, developing a new work around a bizarre gradient in ink, a crooked line. My detailed drawing is structured doodling. Patterns of images and symbols are woven together, providing a skeletal structure to the piece. I bend these forms, rend them, start them anew, evolve them into something quite different. A bigger image is built out of and upon these patterns. I repeat one idea over and over in a series, or juxtapose opposing ideas. Through variation, I am able to reveal and contrast differing facets of a theme. Through this kind of sequencing a deeper story emerges, an ambiguous truth.

Guzeppi Theuma
myartspace id:Burano20
BIOGRAPHY:
Guzeppi Theuma was born in Paola, Malta in 1945. In 1964 he settled in the U.K., where he attended the Hertfordshire College of Arts in the City of St Albans. In 1977 he returned to Malta and studied the visual arts development in his native country. In 1999 he joined with the Executive Committee of the Zabbar Sanctuary Museum where he is now the Secretary. His main priorities are documentation and restoration coordination. Guzeppi is better known for constructing metal sculptures. Some of these have been exhibited in collective exhibitions in Malta and the U.K. But he also ventured into oil paintings, watercolours, cartoons, and recently, digital art and ceramics with the well known, Zell Osborne. His digital impressions are uncomplicated. His palette of colours is at once logical, yet realistic of the subject he composes. Virtually all of his creations depict an aspect of the uncompromising world that surrounds him. His effects of colour and light reveal the artist’s sense of pursuit for the truth and this reflects in his intimate portrayal of life both still and alive. In the 80’s, he was a leading caricaturist for several national papers. He is considered as an art historian, an author of several publications, particularly about Maltese artists and their works. His latest publication being: L-Arti fil-Knejjes Minn Mitt Pittur Malti - A short biography of 100 Maltese painters – cataloguing visually their works in Churches.

Brandy Devoid

BIOGRAPHY:
Art is about spirituality or the absence of spirituality in some form or another. Like the God, Goddess or Creator we are in the act of creating or destroying. We bring about from the picture of the universe some sort of representation of that picture. We are in a sense creating life by creating art. We are giving birth to our thoughts...reacting to a collection of stimuli...or having an intuition about a set of objects or happenings. This all has to come from some where doesn’t it? I suspect an infinite pool of dreaming...maybe a Jungian collective subconsciousness...a connection to our culture subconsciously or an act of spiritual connection to that which we view as god’s voice speaking through us. The act of creation is the plucking the strings of the infinite spider web. One of these threads is always going to be connected directly with creator. Some threads maybe connected with the earth and the rest to each other. If you had a picture of what was going on it might suggest that art is a map of human existence...a representation of a place we’ve been in our mind. This may explain some synchronistic occurrences. Can coincidence be explained by science? Are there mathematic probabilities for our experiences? Is art a visual representation of the “soul of the universe” that Jung describes? The more I create the more questions I have. I feel what’s in my soul, my subconscious is important to express. I feel moved on a soul level to create and this art is my human experience...my imagination. What’s to say that my imagination is not reality somewhere else on the map of the universe. Spirit, Latin word “to breath” spiritual involves many internalizing ones true reason for existence and freeing ones self of the bonds of the physical self. Creation is the opportunity for an enlightened connection...a clear view of ones purpose...a freeing of the soul.

BIOGRAPHY:
I have been painting since 1990. Since I started late in life as an artist, I learned through mentors. Coincidentally both my mentors, Peggy Zerhring and Mary Tudor studied with Elaine De Cooning. That sort of makes me her honorary mentee I guess. Though I love oils, I found I couldn't survive them. Not being a technically trained artist, other art mediums lacked the flexibitlity I needed until I realized that my other passion, the computer held the key to futhering my creative interests. The range of tools are enornous and many say that it makes art too easy. Not so. One still has to have an eye for a good composition and balance, especially in abstract. This medium stretches me every bit as any could because it is so malleable in scope. Such pliancy brings to mind what it would be like to exist multi-dimensionally creating for all manner of worlds and existences. Thats the reoccurring thought as I do my work.

Richard Beaulieu
myartspace id:sculptors57
BIOGRAPHY:
Artist Statement: Art is made from dreams, and visions, and things not known, and least of all from things that can be said. It comes from the inside of who you are when you face yourself. It is an inner declaration of purpose; it is a factor which determines an artist identity. Biography from AskART: The following Biography from AskART: biography, submitted November 2006, is from Laura Paboojian, representative of the artist. Born in Holyoke, Massachusetts, Richard Beau Lieu, an established metal sculptor, was schooled in realism, yet abstraction has afforded him creative license. He is the eldest of four children, born to Raymond and Estelle Beaulieu. He has two grown daughters, and a total of six grandchildren. He currently resides in South Florida. His parents, sister and eldest daughter also all live in Florida. Beau Lieu's most popular works range in size from two to twelve feet, though his sculpture Liberty, or Victory Over Communism stands at over forty feet and weighs more than seven tons. Finished, but for its painting, it stands outside his studio wearing only a coat of primer. Where exactly the idea for this work came from, not even the artist can say. It is certainly abstract -- as is most of his work, but not nearly as lyrical. The lion's share of Beau Lieu's work, which he opts to paint on primary and secondary colors, are often interspersed with stainless steel and polychrome finishes and fashioned of extremely dense and rigid materials. Several of his institutional pieces are bronze figurative and are dedication sculptures for medical foundations. His studies in art began in Massachusetts and concluded at Shaftesbury University in London, England with a Masters of Fine Arts degree. In 1980 he moved to Florida and founded Beau Lieu Sculpture Studios in 1984 in Boynton Beach, Florida. The area where his studio is located is known for the scenes and scents of common industry and it is here he creates sculptures and three dimensional, mixed media compositions in steel, aluminum and bronze. Many of his early sculptures can be found in in the northeast, most of which are located in Massachusetts and the tri-state area of New York, New Jersey and Connecticut. As a sculptor he has paid special attention to world events and has marked such events with his work, such as the breakdown of communism in the late 80 which ended with fall of the Berlin Wall. He created a forty foot steel sculpture called Victory Over Communism. A steel sculpture called Reflections of Desert Storm is located at the Air National Guard base in Westfield, Massachusetts. Reflecting society's move towards spirituality as a means to dealing with social problems, Beau Lieu created a large steel sculpture titled The Spirit Guide, which is located in the Berkshires of western Massachusetts. He has immortalized political leaders and famous artists of the past with homages to their significant contributions to their particular fields. Some of these include Marc Chagall, Kandinsky, Picasso, Winston Churchill, Gandhi, and Ronald Regan. In 1986 he received a commission from Starkoff Associates, that resulted in two monumental sculptures being installed on the grounds of the Arvida Executive Center in Boca Raton. I n 1988, another commission resulted in the production of seven sculptures of a marine, or nautical theme, which were part of an underwater art exhibit to benefit The Center for Marine Conservation in Washington, D.C. In 1989, he was the recipient of the Distinguished Florida Artist of the Year Award. He also received a 1990 award for Significant Contribution to the Arts in Education from the National Organization of Young Audiences, and in addition received a 1991 Resident Artist Award for his work with high school students by the Palm Beach County School Department. Other awards include the Neighborhood Artist Residency Program Cultural Council Grant Recipient 1999; Outstanding Artist and Designers of the 20th Century 2000; Decree of Merit, International Biographical Centre, Cambridge, England 2001; Meritorious Achievement in Art and Education, American Biographical Society 2001; The Mike Ryan Memorial, A Tribute to Veteran Hospital Volunteers, 2002. Beau Lieu most recent commissions are the Boca Raton Community Hospital, Boca Raton , Florida "Volunteer Tribute" dedicated in 1998, and the Tribute To Volunteers at the Veterans Hospital in Daytona Beach , Florida in 2002. In 2001 he was approached by the City of Boynton Beach to organize the selection of an Arts Commission board and the writing of an Art ordinance, guidelines and recommendations to govern that ordinance. He was appointed by the mayor for a three year term as a board member, and now serves as chairman. He is a twenty year member of the Palm Beach Cultural Council and a civic art leader. He sat on the selection committee for the Veterans Memorial Project and Wilson center memorial, a tribute to Carolyn Simms. His affiliations include many art organizations and environmental groups. He has sat on the Faculty for the Armory Arts Center, West Palm Beach, Florida and the Art Advisory Board for Northwood University, Palm Beach, Florida. In 2006 he was appointed as a certified professional fine art appraiser by the IFAA, International Fine Art Appraisers. Beau Lieu is currently working on large scale sculpture for upcoming shows in the 2007 season and is working with local art organizations to promote public art in the South Florida area. He is listed in Strathmore's Who's Who of outstanding business and professional leaders from 2002 to 2005. A note about Richard Beau Lieu's signature: Richard's work is signed "Beau Lieu". The reason for this split in his signature is that many years ago he realized some people could not pronounce his given family name of "Beaulieu", therefore he decided to break it up into two words. This seemed to help with pronunciation, as the two individual words were much more recognizable, and although this is no longer a problem anymore, it has become his unique signature. ** If you discover credit omissions or have additional information to add, please let us know at registrar@AskART.com.

BIOGRAPHY:
The work of the Cubists made a strong impression on me at a very young age. I often use a Cubist approach when I manipulate space to artificially restrict depth in my works. The results of this can be seen in pieces like my table "Watercourse." Aspects of the Avant-Garde and Surrealism also significantly influence my work, though ultimately my work is defined by Concrescentism. My own "maleness" is another component in my artistic expression. I'm captivated by the sleekness, grace, and angularity of the male form which seems very consistent with my own artwork. This masculine disposition is expressed in well defined lines and carefully delineated geometric forms. Finally, this masculine influence, can be seen in my love and identification with steel. No other material has captured my imagination like steel. Steel is heavy, durable, massive, and permanent. While I seriously pursue my work, what I want people who view my work to experience more than anything else is a sense of fun. Fun is an element in all my work. I've told people on more than one occasion that if someone really understands my work, if someone looks at it and reflects on it, eventually you'll find, somewhere back behind it all, a child, standing there laughing at you.

BIOGRAPHY:
I was born in New York City, though I lived the most part of my life in the Montreal area, in Quebec. Interested in visual arts at a very young age, I drew countless hours and drove every family member crazy with my incessant doodling on every thing in my path. First schooled in History of the Arts at the University of Montreal, I soon opted for a more physical and outdoors career and became a geologist. Being a nature lover, I chose to work as an environmental consultant for a decade. A strong interest in education also brought me to work with school kids and organize hundreds of visual art projects for them. This rekindled a passion that drove me to become a professional artist.

Susan Raybould

BIOGRAPHY:
Profile Susan Raybould was born in the North East of England. Susan has lived in Europe, Africa, the Middle East and America. The seeds of her passion for nature and wildlife were sown at an early age while growing up in an English seaside town. Her empathy for all living things grew deeper as she traveled the world. This profound passion is reflected in her paintings. Susan currently resides in Fort Worth, Texas Susan has been an artist for the past twenty years, experimenting with various mediums and techniques. Susan chose ceramics as a way to create hand painted works that tell wonderfully detailed stories linked by a common theme. Her creative use of design within her work serves to deepen the story being portrayed. Artists Statement "The artwork I create is inspired by the allure of nature. In studying an image in the natural world I am fascinated by the different perspectives you can see. In using hand built ceramics as my canvas I am able to carry this theme of varying perspectives through to the pieces that I create. Utilizing all areas of the ceramic, inside and out, I can explore the depths of an image in a single piece of art. I have an evolving relationship with my chosen medium. I enjoy the challenge of combining the creative side of working with the clay and underglazes to achieve the desired result combined with the technical aspects involved in firing the finished work.
