| My works about radical tumor resections confront the viewer with a surgeon's eye view of the operative procedure. The imagery comments on humankind’s struggle against mortality. I intend to create an aesthetic experience on two levels: the sublime as a sobering realization of the fragility of our existence and as an emotional experience of beauty. Not only does my work record history but it places the viewer into an unusual visual vantage point; that of a surgeon. The anonymous identities of the patient, the surgeon, and assistants, invites the viewer to participate in role play. The viewer is directly confronted with the borderline of life. |
