My painting is an exploration of colour and texture, remaining open to the possibilities that create themselves in this process. I have an intuitive approach, working mainly from imagination, balancing colour and form and creating contrasts and tension within the painting whenever the chance arises. Generally my work is semi-abstract with a recurring theme of respect and concern for the beauty of the environment and life within it. I generally work on my abstract paintings all four ways and often the finished work could be viewed from any direction. Many people will see transient figures in my paintings as I like to involve my audience in my work. I prefer to work in acrylics because of their bright colours and flexibility.
Since 2004 I have been mixing my media even further by doing digital art. I tend to think in layers and am fascinated by the blend of the traditional and the new. I am inspired by colour and texture and the world around me and love to abstract from it and weave different aspects together to produce an integrated idea, view or statement. My digital art allows me to mix my media even more by combining my paintings, drawings and photographs and work with my light pen producing digital prints thus bringing together different strands of my life (computing background and love of art and photography).
