OVERVIEW
CatMacArt Corporation, the owner of the myartspace social network for artists and HotShoe International have collaborated to sponsor a photography contest in early 2008 -- "Next Perspective".

First Prize:US $2000 cash and a portfolio feature in HotShoe International Magazine.

Henry Horenstein, Rhode Island School of Design, Professor of Photography

Henry Horenstein has worked as a photographer, teacher, and author since the early 1970s-- his career as a teacher started at Harvard in 1974. Henry is author of over 30 books, including many monographs (HONKY TONK, HUMANS, CREATURES, AQUATICS, CANINE, RACING DAYS). His newest book CLOSE RELATIONS was recently published by powerHouse Books; it's a collection of photographs he made as a student of Harry Callahan and Aaron Siskind's at RISD in the early 1970s. Henry's textbooks have been widely used by hundreds of thousands of photography students over past 30 years. Henry lives in Boston where he continues to photography, exhibit, publish, and teach at the Rhode Island School of Design, where he is professor of photography. He is known for being one of the most influential photography educators in the United States.

Dr Juliet Hacking, Sotheby's Institute of Art/London, Programme Director of the MA in Photography (Contemporary and Historical)

Dr Juliet Hacking is the Programme Director of the MA in Photography (Contemporary and Historical) at Sotheby's Institute of Art in London. The MA is unique in that it allows students to study photography entirely as a branch of art history and visual culture, while also developing their skills of professional practice (as curators, gallerists etc). . Juliet joined the Institute in 2006 from Sotheby's auction house (London) where she was the Head of the Photographs Department (from 2003). Prior to joining the auction house in as a cataloguer in 2000, she worked as a researcher at the National Portrait Gallery (London). She was the curator of the N.P.G. exhibition Princes of Victorian Bohemia: Photographs by David Wilkie Wynfield and wrote the accompanying book (NPG/Prestel 2000). She trained as an art historian at the Courtauld Institute (B.A., M.A., PhD) specialising in nineteenth-century British photography, and has taught as a Visiting Lecturer at the Universities of Derby and Reading and at the Courtauld Institute.


Clare Freestone, National Portrait Gallery/London, Assistant Curator of Photography

Clare Freestone has been Assistant Curator of Photography at the National Portrait Gallery since July 2000. She has a degree in Fine Art from Wimbledon School of Art. Whilst at the National Portrait Gallery, Freestone has managed the Photographs Collection of over 220,000 items and has catalogued collections of prints and negatives including the portrait work of John Gay and Ida Kar. She has curated and co-curated gallery displays ranging from early photography in Harley Granville-Barker and Lillah McCarthy (2006), Goddesses and Others: Photographs by Madame Yevonde (2005) and Walter Benington: Pictorial Portraits (2007), through to mid-twentieth century displays such as Seizing an Instant: Photographs by Roger Mayne (2004), Bill Brandt: Portraits (2004), The Beatles on the Balcony (2006) and Private View: British Pop and the 60s Art Scene (2007). Contemporary Gallery displays Freestone has worked on include DJs by Chris Lopez (2003), Photographs by Horace Ove (2004), Fergus Greer: Photographer in Focus (2006). She has assisted in the annual Photographic Portrait Prize yearly, documenting the judging process. Freestone has written on photography for the British Journal of Photography and widely for Face to Face magazine. She has assisted in the curation and writing for major exhibitions including Cecil Beaton: Portraits (2004) and Angus McBean: Portraits (2006).


RULES
- Photographers must be 18 years of age on 1 January 2008.

- You must be a member of myartspace to be eligible. Membership is free. Work must be submitted through myartspace.

- All submissions are subject to the myartspace Terms of Use agreement.

- Entries can be either digital photography or video. Images can be black and white, colour or lens-based media. Photographic images and video must be assembled in an online gallery in myartspace. Images must be uploaded as jpeg images. Each jpeg image is limited to 10MB in size. Digital videos cannot exceed 400MB in size. A maximum of 20 JPEGs in your online gallery can be included. Each work should be titled and dated.

- Photographers warrant to Myartspace/HotShoe that they own the work submitted, that the whole copyright is vested in them or, if the copyright belongs to a third party such as an agency/gallery, that the photographer has the right to submit the work free of encumbrances or restrictions and that if the work was commissioned for private and domestic purposes, it is submitted with the permission of the person or organisation who commissioned it.

- Warrant to Myartspace/HotShoe that they have obtained the model release forms (where appropriate) from persons featured in their submitted images for all sales, marketing, educational and publicity uses and that no additional releases are required in respect of names, trademarks, designs or works of art depicted in the work.

- Photographers agree that their work may be exhibited either electronically or subsequently at any other exhibition tour venue organised by Myartspace/HotShoe.

- Photographers agree that Myartspace/HotShoe may reproduce and/or licence the reproduction of any entries featured in the award exhibition without any payment to the photographer, model or third party for any sales, marketing, educational and publicity use on and in all media worldwide including catalogues, posters, postcards and the internet. However such free use shall only be in connection with the competition and exhibition and where practicable the photographer and, if appropriate the agency/gallery, will receive a credit for such use.

- The Judges' decision is final and no discussion or correspondence can be entered into on their decision. They reserve the right to vary the awards or not to make any award.

- Reasonable efforts will be made to notify all photographers as to whether their photograph has been short-listed for an award. It is the photographers' responsibility to contact Myspace/HotShoe if he or she has not received notification by that date.


REGISTRATION FEE
A non-refundable submission fee of $20 USD for applications submitted on or before April 12, 2008.
It is necessary to complete registration before submitting work to competition.
All payments must be in USD by Paypal or credit/debt card. Daily conversion rates apply to international transactions.
All registration fees are non-refundable.

FINALISTS
20 finalists will be selected by the jury. These finalists and their work will be highlighted on the myartspace website.
