Born in San Bernardino California and raised on the Palos Verdes Peninsula, I was influenced by the California landscape at an early age. I have lived in the Echo Park district of Los Angeles since 1989. Inspired by travels through the Mojave Desert, a cabin was purchased in Twentynine Palms, CA. as a second home and desert retreat.
Adventure and discovery drives my painting. My imagery comes directly from these explorations of the surrounding landscapes of Los Angeles and beyond. I fit vast landscapes into my small-scaled paintings.
Geography, history and locality fascinate me. Recording ancient geographical events found in distinctive folds of a mountain and capturing light conditions of a region makes each painting a landscape portrait.
Documentation of pristine desert landscapes is very important for me in order to promote preservation of these fragile regions. I am a current board member of the California Wilderness Coalition.
