Marc's explores the interplay of contrasts, expressing the layering of human existence by demonstrating beauty in the unseemly. He is fascinated with how the facade of the corporeal is a mere pretext to the substantive truth beneath that which defines its form. By undermining the illusion of physical space, his work suggests that something greater defines the surface we perceive. To destabilize the viewer’s perception of reality and reveal the veneer’s pretense, his recent works "forgotten place" is an exploration of egnigmatic narratives painted over various layers of handmade textured surfaces that pierce the painted facade through cracks, fissures and relief.
Drawing from life, memories and photography Marc paint ambiguous narratives that evoke the viewer with some sentiment of truth, but like water poured over the hands, its significance is experienced momentarily then eludes ones grasp. Starting with the essence of the subject and working outward reveals stark contrasts of darkness and light that are inherent in the heart of the human condition. To remain truthful he finds it crucial to weave these contrasts, unifying content, form and subject matter in order to express the complexities and mysteries of life. Layering color, light, material and emotion, his work demonstrates disparities of life while illuminating hope emanating from its source renewing that, which is broken.
