| My ceramics and glass body of work speaks both to the organic nature of the medium and to my multi-ethnic background. In my glass work, I play with the idea of opposites, finding beauty in the mundane and with the boundaries between color and light. While the broken shards of glass conjure thoughts of pain, the manipulation of the medium creates a desire to touch. This medium guides your eyes through and around each individual piece, as light reflects and bounces between them. I use readily accessible objects, break them down and reconstruct them into their new life while keeping the essence of their history. I enjoy the playfulness and commonality of recyclable mediums. The use of recycled materials speaks to the dual identities often incorporated into the souls and personalities of those with multi-ethnic backgrounds and upbringing. |
