The Setting Sun
"The Setting Sun" is an automated machine comprised of a photocopier, found paper, a light bulb, pulley, drill, and electronics. These elements are combined together in order to mimic the movement of a setting sun and to produce an image of a sunset. Its crude, clunking, and humorous characteristics underline the ineffectual, exhausted and yet enjoyable qualities of a cliche sunset photograph. Representaions of sunsets often depict a romanticized or sublime nature. However, the produced image from "The Setting Sun" is a sordid black and white copy that resembles more of a carbon-laden sky than a beautiful sunset.

Storm
"Storm" is a large-scale landscape comprised entirely of tens of thousands of hand-cut photocopies that are tacked directly to the wall. Through the creation of numerous generations of images and the reduction in image sizes, the photocopies of clouds and grass become degenerated as they move to form an artificial atmospheric perspective. This surreal illusion produces a disorienting look at our altered perceptions of the natural landscape.

In the Thick
The implication for a rapid overgrowth of mass-produced reproductions is evident in the large-scale landscape, "In the Thick". Amidst the thick foliage that expands into three dimensional plant forms sits a white dog, neither fully docile or dangerous. This narrative element lends an uncertainty about the state of this landscape.
Dimensions: 144x240x84"; Medium: Photocopies

Twice Trunked
"Twice Trunked" is a tree trunk-like sculpture covered in photocopies of the kudzu and ivy plants. Inside a small opening in the trunk is housed a diorama, a miniature replica of the sculpture within the gallery. The sculpture's materials (paper and cardboard) were reshaped to mimic their raw material origin (a tree). The diorama was a way to encompass the gallery in the replication process and make the space into its own landscape.

Landscape Study
"Landscape Study" combines cultural materials with representations of natural elements. Fabric, metal, paper and plastic are transformed into water, air, earth and light. All materials were found in my everyday experience and then translated into an alternative landscape.
