Untitled (Salton Sea)
The Salton Sea; California's abandoned disaster. 150 miles east of San Diego and 80 miles south of Palm Springs lies California's largest inland body of fresh water; one of the great fisheries of the world, a thriving tourist destination through the 1970's and a major flyway for migratory birds. It now lies near dead. Fish & birds by the millions have perished, tourists have all but disappeared and homes are abandoned. The Salton Sea's demise began as its supplies of fresh water from the Colorado River were diverted to the booming & thirsty cities of southern California. Due primarily to agricultural runoff; now its primary source of water, the sea and the land for miles around is laden with salts and disease creating an environment from which humans flee and in which wildlife dies.
Dimensions: 30" x 40"; Medium: Photography

Untitled (desert)
Fragile deserts environments of the southwest U.S. photographed largely at night and in storms. As human development in the southwest continues, these fragile and wonderful ecosystems are rapidly disappearing. Air & noise pollution, redistribution of water resources and the rapid growth of cities and suburbs in the past 20 years have and will continue to contribute to the decline of these environments.
