Marclay mini-documentary

Thanks to Off Center, the Walker artblog, for bringing this nice documentary on Christian Marclay to attention: Link
Also be sure to check out the dealings Marclay recently had with Apple: here

What do you think? Is this sleazy of Apple, or a nicely ironic poetic justice?

defining “Interdisciplinary”

The official myartspace blog has welcomed a new blogger into the fold: Nathan Townes-Anderson. His inaugural post is an excellent illumination of the oft-abused term “interdisciplinary art,” and what it means for us now, other than being one a vague and nearly meaningless seven-syllable works to impress your friends with.

Check it out here.

oh, the guilt: artist resumes

Conversations about artist resume’s are often like conversations about sex: awkward, uncomfortable, with no one really wanting to divulge much about the way they approach it (or even that they have one at all).
But, turns out, there’s really nothing to be ashamed of when it comes to self promotion and the “business” side of art. Paul Dorrell has just posted a nice little informative pep talk about artist statements that is well worth the read (and empowering for anyone ashamed of their self-exposure).

event: College Art Association conference

CAA

The CAA conference, an annual event for the past 95 years, is starting up today in New York. It’s the most important event of the year for anyone involved in or interest in getting involved in college-level art education, involving numerous lectures, seminars, and a big-league career fair with on-site interviews. You can get a pretty decent idea of what its all about by checking out their web site.

If you’re kicking yourself for missing it this year, get out your planner and buy a ticket to Dallas in 2008 now.

art, money, and idiocy

If you ever feel lost when navigating the ever-expanding contemporary art world (and its ballooning market), the Village Voice’s resident critic Jerry Saltz will always be there to provide you with a painfully clear picture of what’s up. In his column this week we learn exactly how out-of-control the current situation is. Bit of a downer. Feel free to disagree with the man, but he has his finger on the pulse like few others. Link.

interview: Aleksandra Mir

aleksandra mir

Fellow myartspace blogger and all-around-good-guy Balhatain recently interviewed the internationally-known multidisciplinary artist Aleksandra Mir for the official myartspace blog. Great interview on a great artist, replete with advice for emerging artists. Can’t beat that. Link.

grad school part 1

We’re well into grad school application season, but there’s still time to get your act together and apply to some good programs.

The first step is to figure out if, in fact, you should be going to grad school right now.

The second would be to figure out where you want to go. The US News & World Report’s America’s Best Graduate Schools is the standard reference for anyone shooting for entry into a top MFA program. At least if you’re in the US. The web site shows a list of the top 3 programs in each discipline (wondering how they’re ranked? Here you go.) The book has top ten lists, which are always fun.

If you know of any “ranking methodology” for grad programs outside of the US, post a comment and let us know about it. Or contact us all proper like, via email.

help wanted: the ambassador program ($)

logo_sm.jpg

Myartspace.com is searching for individuals to become “ambassadors” for the myartspace community: people looking to spread the news about myartspace and make some serious coin along the way by inviting people (friends, family, classmates, teachers, strangers et. al.) to become members of myartspace.

Ambassadors will make money simply by convincing others to sign up for a free account with myartspace.com

Those of you in art programs or other art-saturated communities have the advantage of requesting free flyers to post and hand out at will.

Interested? Sign up here and show us your love of the almighty dollar, or myartspace, or both!
