| Hi Sonia, Yes I slip back into the humor now and then when I relax and make art to play...the Morandi study was getting to me as I hit a roadblock for awhile so i stopped...studying an individual artist is an undertaking not to copy him but to learn what he has learned...like school. I make monoprints because i work in the opposite direction from my usual work...no predrawings or studies just let it hang out...

| This is Valerie Rush, Bernard Friendlich's daughter. Bernie is now 91 and battling advanced Non-Hodgkins Lymphoma. He has refused chemo and is hoping to paint and sculpt until he can't anymore, and so far is managing to do just that. He has the energy of a 70 year old, despite his illness and his age, and is a pretty amazing guy, if I have to say so for myself, with a lust for life and a strong passion to right wrongs in the world. But I'm not sure how much longer we'll have him with us.
That said, I wanted to ask you a big favor. If I give you his address, would it be possible for you to write him a letter telling him how you feel about his art, and a little about yourself, as well? I think it would be a tremendous boost to him, both psychologically and emotionally. His address is: 58-35 256 Street, Little Neck, NY 11362. If you are able to do this, it would be a generous and agapic thing to do, and I thank you in advance.

| Thanks Sonia. Ive been looking at a lot of Giorgio Morandis work and the subtely of color...mixing outdoors in various lights changes colors drastically and quickly. This morning I mixed 7-10 different colors out of the same color pool ultramarine,deep yellow and a mixture of magenta and indian red...also blk and wht...the color was drying on the brush between palette and canvas. Appreciate the comments.

I really like your new paintings especially the last painting of the flowers and the clock. It took me back to my childhood when the dandilions would change from yellow to seads and children would pick them and blow the seads away to tell the time. Some children would say the seads were fairies flying away. Very interesting, paintings.

I love just the pure color Sonia without the need for subject which I get tired of sometimes...like a child just coloring outside the lines because its a kind of freedom...just the media and the color. I am planning some new pieces which will have a more poured quality in layers...One sees the results when it is turned over "Surprise" It can be controlled somewhat like a watercolor but there is always the element of surprise like wet in wet.

| Hi Sonia,
Painting is definetely your form of expression about life around you. It's poetical, metaphysical and most of all colourfull.
It's also very optimistic. It's in approuch very different from my attempt to integrete negativity into my life.
It's hard for me to go deep into your work, other than a compliment for the good effort and the diversity you express.
Also the manifesto about the dog didn't ring any bells with me. I think men is much more cruel to other men than to animals, and I believe cruelty is a part of us we have to deal with, like love is a part of us.
Anuwau, I hope you're having a good time in your studio, like I do.

| thanks sonia for your comment. i set my camera on a tripod, at a much reduced speed, depending on how long my painting would take. i equally set up my black painted canvass on my easel, the room is not entirely dark, just lit a little to enable me see my sketches. i quickly paint over my sketch with several colours of light. any thing "light"can work. i usually use tiny flash light bulbs. at the end ...i just print! i don't like photoshop manpulations, i feel it kills my artistic spirit. if you need more explanations, feel free to ask me. thanks again and looking foward to knowing you more. stanley aneto |

| sonia, thanks for the compliments. I got in your space, your BIO is great, its amusing to read a BIO with such key issues like Brazil and London as closer education to the arts, and what captivates you, how it works your eye training... i dont know, i just really like it.
as regards your painting, well, if i may speak about it, i wonder if you like to taste different styles and techniques. Probably, you consider painting as a field of a constant experiment, and luckily, in your case, with very interesting results. Of course you have these 'experiment paintings' very well organized with concise topics for each gallery and a leading headline, such as the family life.

After returning to Sarasota I left for California in 1966. From there to Japan for 4 years and back to Ca. where I've lived in the Sierra mountains for 30 years.
