If you are an artist or photographer and you wish to construct some galleries of your work, there are a few concepts to keep in mind and a few steps to follow.

There are two ways to construct a gallery with myartspace.  The first is using the "Gallery Wizard" which steps you through the process.  Under the "my work space" pull-down menu you will see "Gallery Wizard" and you select this.  To read a document on the gallery wizard, click on the pdf filename: http://www.myartspace.com/tutorials/GalleryWizard.pdf

The other alternative to create a gallery is a manual process.  This page helps describe that.

An online gallery is what you ultimately will construct to display your work on myartspace.  You can construct more than one gallery, but for the purposes of this instruction, let's just work with one for now.  A gallery is made up of one or more "portfolios" of your works.  A portfolio is a lot like a file folder, it contains one or more images.

UPLOADING IMAGES

You begin your work by first gathering the images you would like to use to create your gallery.  You can organize them in your mind into logical groupings (portfolios).  You upload images one-by-one by accessing the "my work space" pull-down menu in and selecting "my images".  You must upload some or all of your images you wish to use from your computer.  You load images by going to the "my work space" pull-down menu and selecting "my images".

By selecting "my images", myartspace will show you any existing images that are already uploaded.  If you are just starting out, then of course there will be no existing images there.  Frm there, select "Upload New Image" as in the image below.

Uploading images is currently done one at a time.  As each image is uploaded, it should be titled, tagged (i.e. Abstract, Impressionism, Still Life) and be dated and have dimensions associated with it.  Each image can have an audio narration (an MP3 file) associated with it if you want to verbally say something about the image to the audience viewing it.  There are many options that can be set for each image (are they printable, are there watermarks, etc).

CREATING A PORTFOLIO WITH IMAGES IN IT

Next, you can create a portfolio.  Once again, go to the "my work space" pull down menu and select "my portfolios".  You will see what portfolios exists already (if any) and how to create a new one.

A portfolio has a name associated with it and acts like a "folder" to group or hold images together.  For instance, perhaps you were on a painting holiday and did work in Italy and France.  You could create two portfolios -- one named "Italy" and the other named "France".  They could just as easily be "Abstract" and "Sketches".  This is up to you.  Music can be assigned to a portfolio in version 1.1 of myartspace (May 2007) to set the "ambiance" when some one is viewing that particular portfolio.

FINALLY, BUILDING A GALLERY FROM ONE OR MORE PORTFOLIOS

Finally, you are ready now to construct your first gallery.  From the menu system, select the "my galleries" choice from the "my work space" pull-down menu.  From there you can either select an existing gallery (if you have any), create a new gallery, or delete an existing gallery.

To build a gallery, you need to have constructed at least one portfolio.  A gallery can contain one or more portfolios.  A gallery is named, and has associated with it a thumbnail that represents it.  You can include as many portfolios as you like within a gallery.  You can add an MP3 music file or a video file (FLV, WMV, AVI or MPG).

You can upload as many images as you like.  You can create as many portfolios and galleries as you like as well.
