Tim Taylor

Office Explorations
Tim Taylor holds a BA in Art from the Edinburgh College of Art. He work has been shown at an extensive number of group and solo exhibits. He lives and works in Edinburgh and is a part-time lecturer and tutor Edinburgh College of Art.


Morgan Russell

New Work
Morgan Russell holds a BA from Saint Michael's college in Vermont. He has exhibited in both group and solo shows in New York City.
     

Angele Simione

Girls
In her own words "Working from the feminist perspective that the personal is also political, my practice is an investigation into the issues of loss and identity. Whether expressed as text or image, in oil or in yarn, the work serves as a map and a diary of this investigation. It is an exposure and critique of my own questions and convictions regarding the shifting state of the Self and of the Other in contemporary society."
     

Marilee Salvator

Rain Works
Marilee Salvator received her BFA (honors) in printmaking from Illinois State University, Normal, IL in 2000 and her MFA degree in printmaking from University of New Mexico, Albuquerque, NM in 2004. In the last 5 years, Marilee Salvator’s work has been exhibited in over 30 exhibitions throughout North America and abroad.
     

W. Mark Sutherland

W. Mark Sutherland
W. Mark Sutherland is an “intermedia” artist based in Toronto, Canada. He studied at The Royal Conservatory of Music (in conjunction with The University of Toronto, Canada), and he has a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from York University (specializing in Art History/Criticism, Film History and Theory). Sutherland claims “to make poetry that is visual art, visual art that is music, and music that is poetry — all of my objects, texts, performances, videos and audio - visual installations investigate the play of signs found in conflicting principles of authority between language, sound, images and objects.”
     



Brian Sherwin, our senior blog editor has been continuing his interview series with artists. Below are a couple of recent highlights.

Alex Golden

"Alex Golden attended William’s College, graduating Phi Beta Kappa with majors in studio art and psychology. He is currently enrolled in the Master of Fine Arts program at Hunter College in New York City and expects to graduate in a year. Though still in school, Alex has exhibited his work in Connecticut, Pennsylvania, Massachusetts, Toronto, and New York. He has recently been presented to the Master's program at Christie's as a promising emerging artist. Alex’s work is in several private collections, including that of renowned collector, John Pigozzi...."

James Robert Ford

"James Robert Ford is a contemporary British mixed media and installation artist. James attended Goldsmiths College, London. His artwork is often based around social interaction and include elements of game play, participation, communication and humor, and is recognizable in form by its heavy use of the Internet as a means of creating, displaying and promoting artworks...."

Lynn Digby

"Lynn Digby describes herself as a contemporary realist. Much of her work is focused on the search for harmony in complexity-- realism serves as her vehicle. Awareness of the paint surface and tactile qualities of brush and canvas are key to her approach. Lynn explains that she wants her paintings to obviously be what they are without being overly derivative, photographic, or formulaic..."

Prices Soar At Sotheby's Russian Art Auction "The sale totaled 25.7 million pounds ($53.3 million), including commissions, as wealthy collectors fought each other to buy works of their heritage. The total pre-sale estimate, which excludes commission, was 16 million pounds to 23.5 million pounds. ...." Bloomberg 11/27/07

Standardized Tests Cheat The Arts "While both the Department of Education and the federal government identify the arts as vital to a good education, the grades -- and the standardized testing approach -- fail to acknowledge the central role subjects beyond reading and math play in a child's education. Arts education may very well be the 'incomplete' in these report cards.... " Gotham Gazette 11/26/07

Arts & Dollars "Some artists grumble at 'support the arts for the sake of commerce' strategy, saying that by trumpeting the economic-engine argument, the arts-for-aesthetics-sake notion gets rudely pushed aside."
