Below are a few artists we'd like to call your attention to this week.

Luba Diduch

Lubochka4
Luba was born in Montreal, Canada and now lives and works in Calgary, Canada. In her words "I completed my BFA at Concordia University in Montreal. I am now working on my MFA, using mixed/new media as my medium. I create installations that immerse and involve the viewer through the use of digital photographic imagery, sculptural installation and soundscape. My work addresses the concept of the virtual, as well as our changing definitions regarding what constitutes a human being within a shifting technological world. I use post human metaphors of the human body in my work."

Mario Grubisic

Money
Mario holds a diploma in mixed-art media from his studies at the Academy of Fine and Vienna and Berlin. His work has been featured in solo shows in Vienna and Ljubljana (Slovenia). His work has also been shown at group shows in Athens, Innsbruck and Bratislava.

Martinho Costa

Private Collection
Martinho Costa studied Fine Art at the University of Lisbon, and completed his masters degree at the Universidad Complutense in Madrid. His work has been exhibited since 2003 in Portugal and in several group shows in Madrid. In 2007 he was selected for one of the principal painting prizes in Portugal: "Prémio Fidelidade Jovens Pintores" ("Fidelidade young painters prize")

Dana Miller

This is the Last Stop
Dana Miller graduated from the San Francisco Art Institute with a BFA in Photography in 1996. In 2002 she moved to New York and received her MFA in Photography from Bard College in 2005. Dana had her first solo exhibition in New York at the Jen Bekman Gallery in November, 2004, and has been written about in the New York Times, the Village Voice, Leica Fotografie International, and Art in America. She is in the collection of VISA New York and is a recipient of the Camera Club of New York's Residency program for 2006-7. Her featured gallery is a series of work created by taking every subway in New York City to the last stop.

Cable Griffith

Recent Work 12/5/07
In Cable's own words "Painting has always been like a form of magic to me. The act of looking at and creating art was that of experiencing and creating another world. The history of painting has gone through many phases and movements, from illusion, to surface, to object. But more interesting, is that painting can be all three of those things at once. The conflict between the physical (surface and object) and the window (illusion) is a fascinating friction."

Brian Sherwin, our senior blog editor has been continuing his interview series with artists. Below are a couple of recent highlights.

Bo Bartlett

"Bo Bartlett is an American realist with a modernist vision. His paintings are well within the tradition of American realism as defined by artists such as Thomas Eakins and Andrew Wyeth. Like these artists, Bartlett looks at America’s heart—its land and its people—and describes the beauty he finds in everyday life. His paintings celebrate the underlying epic nature of the commonplace and the personal significance of the extraordinary. Bartlett was educated at the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts...."

Marilee Salvator

"Marilee Salvator is an Assistant Professor of Printmaking and 2-d design at Bloomsburg University. Marilee's work has been exhibited in over 30 exhibitions throughout North America and abroad. She recently had a solo show titled Ring Around The Rosie at SNAP Gallery in Edmonton, Alberta. Other recent exhibitions include Stampa D’ Arte, Fondazione Bevilacquq La Masa, Venice, Italy, Power of Print, Italian Cultural Institute, Italian Embassy, Washington, DC, Global Matrix 2, International Printmaking Exhibition, Robert L. Ringel Gallery and Stewart Center Gallery, Purdue University, West Lafayette, IN, and International Small Engraving Salon Carbunari 2006 8th edition, Florean Museum, Maramures, Romania...."

William Brovelli

"William Brovelli's work is centered in exploring the possibilities that arise from mass production on an individual level and its accumulative results. William has created over 40 thousand hand drawn pen/ink figures as material for his works on canvas. The figures range in size from one sixteenth of an inch to 3Ft. These arrangements illustrate the idea of humans as objects which are grouped, categorized, arranged, displayed and observed..."
